Technicians for the establishment and operation of a Ceph storage platform at Statens IT

Do you have solid experience with Linux, storage and open source technologies? Do you want to be part of building a new central storage platform for the state? Then Statens it is looking for two strong employees who will play a central role in the design, establishment and subsequent operation of a Ceph-based storage platform.

About the position You will become part of the Center for Infrastructure, where we operate and develop a wide range of Statens Its central infrastructural platforms.

The platform should in the first instance support a storage need for our customers, who use storage at petabyte scale. At the same time, the establishment of Ceph is part of our strategic work to increase the use of open source technologies and reduce dependence on proprietary solutions. Your first major task will be, together with colleagues, to establish a robust and production-ready Ceph platform. Thereafter you will be an important part of the ongoing operation, automation, further development and capacity management of the solution.

Your duties will include, among other things

• Design and establishment of a Ceph-based storage platform
• Installation, configuration and optimization of Ceph
• Establishment of stable and secure production operations
• Capacity management and scaling of the platform
• Automation of installation, configuration and operational tasks
• Collaboration with other infrastructure teams on integration to server, virtualization, network and backup platforms

About you We imagine that you have a strong technical profile and experience with operation of infrastructural platforms.

It is advantageous if you have experience with several of the following areas

• Ceph or other distributed storage platforms
• Linux administration
• Block-, file- and object storage
• RBD, CephFS and/or S3-compatible object storage
• Networks and storage protocols
• Container- and virtualization platforms
• High availability, redundancy and disaster recovery

You do not necessarily need to already be a Ceph specialist. The most important is that you have a solid infrastructural understanding, are technically curious and eager to specialize in distributed storage and open source.

We also attach importance to that you

• Work in a structured way and take responsibility for your solutions
• Have focus on stable, secure and automated operations
• Can translate technical possibilities into robust production solutions
• Thrive with both establishment of new technology and subsequent operational responsibility
• Are keen to work with open source as a strategic part of our infrastructure

Why Ceph? Statens It continuously works to standardize, automate and modernize our infrastructure.

Ceph enables us to establish a scalable, redundant and vendor-independent storage platform based on open source. The platform should support storage needs for Statens Its customers while at the same time building competencies and experience with open source-based software-defined storage.

You will thus have the opportunity to be involved from the very beginning and have real influence on architecture, standards, automation and the future development of the platform

About Statens It Statens It operates systems for more than 60,000 users across 21 ministerial areas and helps lay the foundation for the continued digitalization of the state.

We focus on gathering and standardizing state IT operations and leveraging the technological and financial benefits of shared infrastructural platforms.

With us you get the opportunity to work with infrastructure at scale and at the same time influence the technological choices we make going forward.

With us presence together with our colleagues matters a lot, and we believe that collaboration and knowledge sharing across the agency are crucial for a good working environment. At the same time we want to ensure flexibility for our employees, and working from home can be arranged periodically between manager and employee when it is compatible with task execution.

Employment conditions You are employed under the applicable collective agreement with the possibility of negotiation depending on qualifications.

It is a condition of employment that you can be security cleared to 'SECRET' and subsequently maintain the clearance throughout your employment. In connection with the employment, you will be asked to submit a private criminal record, which you obtain via www.politi.dk, or by appearing in person at your local police station. We will tell you more about this along the way in the recruitment process.

The area of employment is the Ministry of Finance with the associated institutions, currently the Ministry's department, Statens Administration, Statens It, The Economic Council and the Employee and Competence Agency.
