About the job

We are seeking a natural science academic, preferably a geologist, who wants to help ensure that the Environmental Protection Agency obtains knowledge about the seabed and, in collaboration with our biologists and universities, ensures we have knowledge about the Danish marine nature.

In these years we are mapping the seabed and sea nature not least based on the new nature restoration regulation, which requires knowledge and restoration measures to ensure a good marine environment. We seek a colleague who can assist with this work as well as the rest of the office's tasks, which also include assistance to colleagues working with mineral extraction.

You join a agency that is in full swing of restructuring into a more action-oriented Environmental Protection Agency, and where both frameworks, tasks and organization are in motion. At the same time you enter a professional area that is central to the regulation of the marine environment, characterized by high legal complexity and great political attention.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for you who are either an experienced geologist with knowledge of seabed geology, sediments and substrates or who want to gain this experience.

We would like you to

  • Have knowledge of geophysical methods for seabed mapping, for example multibeam echo sounder, sidescan sonar and sub-bottom profiling and/or airborne LiDAR mapping and/or ground-truth methods such as ROV and seabed sampling.
  • Have experience with or knowledge of relevant parameters and data types within seabed mapping and marine environment, e.g., bathymetry, morphology, sediment and substrate types, habitat types, grain sizes, organic content and carbon as well as physical and chemical conditions in the sea.
  • Have experience and are good with GIS and geodata handling. Experience with QGIS is an advantage.
  • Are motivated to contribute to planning and prioritization of seabed mappings, including providing professional input on data density and relevant mapping themes.
  • Can analyse and quality-check reports and responses from GEUS.
  • Have an interest in marine habitat types and the interplay between seabed physical conditions and biological communities and together with our biologists can describe the relationship in seabed nature relative to EUNIS habitat types.

In addition you will participate in and possibly – given your competencies – drive a network in the Environmental Protection Agency across the various offices that work with the seabed to ensure that the mapping in the coming years is coherent and of maximum benefit for the resources we have.

You will often need to collaborate with colleagues with different professional backgrounds, therefore we place emphasis on your ability to communicate your professional knowledge to other disciplines, just as you must be able to translate their expertise into your task solution.

We also attach importance to your interest in politics and that you are a friendly person who contributes positively to good wellbeing in the office.

We offer

You will join an already well-functioning team that is good at sparring with each other. We are about 30 colleagues in the office and are organized in teams with 1 office head and 2 functional leaders. Your colleagues are professionally skilled and knowledge sharing is a natural part of everyday office life. You will work in a busy, professional, social and outward-looking environment with a pleasant atmosphere. We emphasize that it is fun and motivating to go to work, and that we spend time on the right things. In addition we value a pleasant chat over lunch, which can also include non-professional topics.

Salary and employment conditions

Salary and employment conditions are in accordance with the current Collective Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academic Agreement).

The employment area is the Ministry of Environment with its associated institutions.

The place of work will be Lerchesgade 35, 5000 Odense C.

Start date is as soon as possible and no later than 1 January 2027.
