Dorota came during her training to internship at Pilebakken with no great expectations, but quickly found that Pilebakken was a place she would like to stay. “It is the relationship we build that makes the difference – and when it succeeds, I can feel that it is what I am passionate about," she says. Today Dorota works permanently at Pilebakken.

We work with adults 50+ with dementia and mental illnesses, where the focus is on the close and everyday: a bath, a moment of calm, an ice cream in summer or Christmas crafts in December. Small things can make the biggest difference, and empathy, patience and the ability to listen – even without words – are decisive. You enter the residents' homes, and that is a responsibility.

“I don't think about the illness. I think of the person I help. How do I ensure they have a good day? It is often the small things in everyday life that make the biggest difference for our residents.”

At Pilebakken we do not expect you to know everything. You will receive thorough training and will gradually be equipped to work independently. And if you are in doubt, you ask – because here we help each other.

We are looking for someone who

• is trained as a pedagogue, social and health care assistant, nurse, physiotherapist – or has another relevant background
• has empathy, patience and a natural approach to people
• can find calm in the unpredictable
• sees the person before the diagnosis and is open to learning and development

Here at Pilebakken safety is part of everyday life. The fences around the garden are not there to keep anyone in, but to protect those who cannot always protect themselves. We always wear an alarm, too. But it's not because we feel unsafe.

“I've never felt unsafe. I've only used my alarm once, and that was to get help for a resident who had fallen.”

Application and employment

The position is as a rule full-time, but can be adapted to the right candidate. This is a permanent position with salary and terms of employment according to the applicable collective agreement.
