About the job

Do you want to help create safety and calm for young people in their shared home at Viborg Cathedral School's dormitory? Do you have a calm and acknowledging approach, and do you thrive working at night? Then you might be one of our new night guards.

We are seeking 2–4 waking night guards for part-time positions at Viborg Cathedral School's dormitory. The work mainly takes place on Friday and Saturday nights and can be combined with study or other employment.

A home for young people from Denmark and the rest of the world

Viborg Cathedral School's dormitory is a home for 173 fantastic young people aged 16-19. They come from all over Denmark and the rest of the world and share one thing: they are all students at Viborg Cathedral School.

The dormitory is built on three core values: safety, community, and room to be themselves. The young people have an independent youth life with friends, hobbies, and shared activities. At the same time, the dormitory staff help create a safe environment and support them in taking responsibility and showing consideration for each other.

Your role as a awake night guard

You will be a visible and accessible adult who contributes to the residents feeling safe at night. You meet the young people in a friendly and respectful manner and understand that the dormitory is their home.

Your main tasks will be to

  • Walk fixed rounds in the dormitory once an hour.
  • Be available on the night watch phone and stay at the dormitory office between rounds.
  • Aid and support young people who need an adult.
  • Create calm through dialogue and friendly, clear guidance.
  • Prevent and de-escalate potential conflicts with a calm and acknowledging approach.
  • Record important incidents and any rule violations for follow-up by the dormitory teachers.

Each night shift begins with a short handover and a joint round with the on-duty dormitory teacher. Thereafter you handle the ongoing tasks yourself. There is a sleeping dormitory teacher present as a back-up whom you can contact in serious situations where you need help.

We are looking for someone who

  • Wants to work with young people and understands their youth life.
  • Is calm, responsible, and good at keeping an overview.
  • Can meet the young people in an acknowledging manner while setting clear boundaries.
  • Can work independently and assess when there is a need for help.
  • Is reliable and thrives being awake and attentive throughout the entire night shift.
  • Can communicate in both Danish and English

Experience with youngsters, relationship work, or conflict management is an advantage. The most important is that you can build trust and meet the young people with calm, respect, and clarity.

Working hours and employment

These are part-time positions with pre-agreed shifts.

  • Most shifts take place on Friday and Saturday from 22:30–04:30 during school weeks.
  • In addition, shifts include the period from Friday 17:00 to Saturday 12:00 up to autumn break, Christmas break, winter break, and Easter break.
  • The duty roster is planned in collaboration with the dormitory manager and the other night guards, so you know your shifts well in advance – with the possibility to plan for an entire school year at a time.
  • Shifts can subsequently be swapped by agreement with the dormitory manager.
  • Salary according to collective agreement with various weekend and night allowances.
  • During school holidays the dormitory is closed and you therefore have no duty obligations beyond the aforementioned.

Start date: January 1, 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Application and contact

Send your application and CV to [email protected] no later than Wednesday, November 18 at 12:00. Please tell us about your motivation for working with young people, your relevant experience, and your possibilities to participate in the duty roster.
