About the job

Viborg Idrætshøjskole seeks 2 folk high school teachers

We are looking for two engaged folk high school teachers for permanent positions with start 1 January 2027. The two positions together comprise 1.5 teaching years, distributed between the two positions by mutual agreement. We are primarily looking for folk high school teachers who want to participate in the whole life of the folk high school. You are passionate about your subject, but you also know that a folk high school is about much more than teaching. It is about the meeting between people, about creating communities and about giving young people courage and desire to participate in the world around them.

We offer a broad professional profile within sport, existential subjects, hands-on crafts and common folk high school subjects. We are curious about what you can contribute and how your professional interests and personal engagement can contribute to our folk high school.

Viborg Idrætshøjskole’s overarching purpose is life enlightenment, popular education and democratic formation based on sport, community and folk high school subjects. Our students should develop the ability to take responsibility for themselves and something larger, while also being able to navigate small and large communities.

Your profile

You are an engaged person with an interest in society, culture and (in)formation. You have knowledge of the core idea of free schools, you respect our folk high school’s history and tradition, and you can translate this strong starting point into relevant teaching and interaction.

You have a relevant education, you have pedagogical understanding and you have teaching experience. You are familiar with our folk high school or have experience from similar positions.

You can meet the students at eye level, you want interaction and conversation with the students and you are curious about who they are and where they want to go.

You are good at collaboration and you are ready to contribute to our work community. You can also work independently and you take pride in having your tasks and areas of responsibility followed through.

Your responsibilities and tasks

We are not looking for one specific subject profile, but we are curious about what you can contribute within:

  • OCR, gymnastic vaulting, football.
  • Fitness-based subjects such as e.g. CrossFit, Hyrox, Bodycross, Outdoor-fitness.
  • Music and singing: A contribution to morning assemblies, community singing, folk high school events.
  • Existential subjects within politics, society, psychology and nature.
  • Hands-on subjects within construction, craftsmanship, creative processes and practical skills.

The list is for inspiration, not a fixed list. You are very welcome to contribute with other competences that can bring new perspectives and possibilities into our curriculum.

Folk high school teacher – what you need to be able to do

  • Teach and develop subjects. Create relevant, engaging teaching where professionalism, curiosity and community go hand in hand.
  • Hosts in everyday life, where you ensure the day runs smoothly
  • Hosts on weekends, where you contribute to events and the students’ experience of a good folk high school weekend.
  • Interaction with the students on an equal footing, a general understanding of youth culture and a focus on the students’ well-being and development.
  • The role as study group teacher, where you have special responsibility for a group of students’ general well-being (add communities) and their folk high school experience. This includes student talks and study group meetings.
  • Travels with the students – join in the shared experiences.

Success criteria – when do we know we have succeeded?

  • You have created good and relevant teaching that the students have engaged in.
  • You have been a visible and present folk high school teacher whom students trust and who has been perceived as an important part of their folk high school stay.
  • You have taken responsibility for hosting and contributed to a daily life and some weekends with life, presence and community.
  • You have actively contributed to the work community and have been open and proactive toward colleagues across subjects and roles.
  • You have left your own mark on the folk high school and helped develop both subjects and community.

In short: That you have not only fulfilled your teaching duties but have helped make Viborg Idrætshøjskole an even better place to be a student and a staff member.
