About the job

We are seeking three senior physicians/consultants in geriatrics for the Department of the Elderly and Multimorbidity at North Zealand Hospital.

As part of a targeted investment in geriatrics, we are now expanding our group of specialists with three specialists. The aim is to strengthen a professionally strong geriatric environment characterized by high specialist expertise, close collegial sparring, and joint development.

Our department is facing a number of major changes. Our functions will be consolidated at New North Zealand Hospital, we will take over the treatment responsibility for health and care placements in the north, and we will establish new training programs in geriatrics.

We want to strengthen the geriatric effort both during acute admission, in outpatient services, and in collaboration with the hospital's other specialties and the local health care system. The goal is a unified geriatric department with a focus on high clinical quality and coherent patient pathways across sectors.

We therefore seek colleagues who are passionate about geriatrics, value professional sparring, and want to help shape a department where ideas quickly lead to action.

The department and its professional development

We are today six specialists in geriatrics and five specialists with backgrounds in other internal medicine specialties. The clinical work is based on the broad geriatric patient with multimorbidity, frailty, and complex treatment needs.

At the same time, we are developing several professional priority areas

  • Geriatric outpatient clinic and falls assessment: Our outpatient clinic handles a wide range of geriatric issues, including falls assessment. We have experienced physicians with particular competencies in falls assessment, and there is opportunity to be trained in advanced falls assessment and to deepen expertise in the area.
  • Coherent patient pathways: From January 1, 2027, the region will take over the treatment responsibility for 169 health and care placements spread across seven campuses in North Zealand. This is a new regional task where we will help build a medical professional function and develop collaboration across sectors.
  • Collaboration with other specialties: We are working on developing the geriatric effort across the hospital so that our competencies are used where they make the biggest difference for patients.

The department currently has medical students in years 3 and 8 and a clinical professor affiliated.

Education will be an important development area in the coming years. The department already has chief specialist trainees in general practice, and with the appointment of a new educationally responsible senior physician on December 1, 2026, we are working to establish a strong educational environment in geriatrics. We have applied to receive introductory doctors in geriatrics and are working toward becoming a teaching site for chief specialist trainees in the specialty from the end of 2027.

There will therefore also be opportunities to engage in teaching, supervision, and development of the department's educational functions.

Who are you?

You are a specialist in geriatrics with a solid professional foundation and interest in working with elderly patients with complex disease courses. You can be a recently qualified specialist or have several years of experience.

We are looking for professionally ambitious colleagues who want to help develop geriatrics in North Zealand. We particularly emphasize that you:

  • Have a high professional ambition and value quality in diagnostic work and treatment.
  • Are professionally curious, keep yourself updated, and want to develop both your own and the department's clinical practice.
  • Are willing to take initiative and responsibility for the development of new professional services, functions, and workflows.
  • Thrive in interdisciplinary collaboration and want to strengthen geriatrics' role in cooperation with the hospital's other specialties.
  • Contribute actively to a collegial environment characterized by professional sparring, knowledge sharing, and constructive dialogue.
  • Have an interest in teaching and supervision and a desire to contribute to building the department's medical continuing education.

We do not expect that you have experience with all these tasks, but that you have the desire and commitment to develop them together with us.

Your daily life with us

The department currently includes

  • A ward with 25 beds in Frederikssund.
  • The Elderly Reception with 8 beds in Hillerød.
  • An geriatrics team in Hillerød that assesses and prioritizes patients for geriatric admission and handles geriatric supervision in the acute reception.
  • Outpatient Clinic for Geriatric Diseases in Frederikssund with a broad geriatric function, including falls assessment.
  • From January 1, 2027, the department's area of responsibility will be expanded as we take over the treatment responsibility for 169 health and care placements spread over seven campuses in North Zealand.

Your clinical work will primarily be linked to the department's inpatient ward and include assessment and treatment of the geriatric patient with complex disease courses. At the same time, you will be part of developing new coherent patient pathways when the region from 2027 takes over the treatment responsibility for health and care placements in North Zealand.

Here you will have the opportunity to follow patient care across the hospital, health and care placements, and the rest of the local health system and contribute to developing a new way of organizing the geriatric effort. In addition, there will be opportunities to engage in outpatient work, teaching, and development tasks.

We have a on-call system with on-site duty in the Elderly Reception on weekdays until 20:00 and then an on-call duty from home from 20:00-08:00. There is a weekend on-call roughly every fourth weekend. The night shift is handled by a separate on-call team.

Application deadline: Invitations to interviews will be issued continuously. The latest application deadline is 22.11.2026
