About the job
Do you have strong practical skills, and are you passionate about teaching others and making a difference for people? Then maybe you are the one we’re looking for.
At RessourceCenter Aalborg we are looking for two workshop assistants who can combine practical skills with strong relational competences. You must be able to see the person behind the task, build trust and motivate the citizen to take the next step towards work or education.
With us, the workshop is not just a place where things are produced. It is a development space. Here, citizens get the opportunity to try themselves, experience successes, develop their competencies and gain experience in joining a work community.
Your most important task is to create development
As a workshop assistant you will be a role model for the citizens attached to the workshop.
- Learn from you and make practical tasks understandable and manageable
- Meet the citizen with respect, curiosity and clarity
- Build relationships and create trust – also with citizens who may have difficulty joining work communities
- See each citizen’s resources, potential and development opportunities
- Motivate the citizen to try something new and challenge their own boundaries
- Provide constructive feedback and acknowledge progress
- Set clear boundaries and expectations
- Adapt your communication and instruction to the individual citizen
- Create structure and predictability in daily life
- Work purposefully with the citizen’s progression towards the labor market
- Observe the citizen’s development and work-related competences
- Collaborate closely with employment professionals and other colleagues
You must be able to move from: “This is how you do it” → “Try it yourself” → “I support you” → “Now you can do it yourself.”
You are both a professional and a relationship-builder
We imagine that you have a practical or craft-based background and are used to working with concrete tasks. But the most important thing is not how many tools you can handle. The most important is how you use your competences to develop others.
- Good at creating contact and relations
- Have patience and can accommodate diversity
- Can be both clear and appreciative
- Want to teach others
- It is an advantage if you have previously worked with training of apprentices, employees, jobseekers or citizens
- Can explain the same task in several different ways
- Good at spotting small progress and building on them
- Can motivate a citizen who may not believe they can
- Thrives in working with people who have different challenges and prerequisites
We expect you to take responsibility for the citizen’s development
You must be curious about the individual citizen’s development and be able to notice small and large progress.
You must be able to see when a citizen moves forward – and be able to articulate what has happened and what the next step could be.
Maybe a citizen comes in who does not dare to use a machine. After a few weeks the citizen dares to try. Later the citizen can independently solve a task and carry the competence with them to a real workplace.
You must be able to teach, give the citizen concrete professional and work-related competences and at the same time support the development of the personal and social competences necessary to participate in a workplace.
You should therefore not only ask: “Can the citizen solve the task?”
You should also be curious: “What needs to happen for the citizen to do more tomorrow than today?”
Your task is to create the framework where the citizen can try, practice, succeed and gradually become more independent – whether the goal is a job, education, a skills shift or developing and maintaining work ability.
Your practical tasks
- Plan and coordinate daily work tasks
- Introduce and train citizens in the workshop’s tasks
- Ensure correct and safe use of tools and machines
- Follow up on tasks and quality
- Contribute to production and client tasks
- Create structure and overview in the workshop
- Document attendance and relevant progression
- Participate in follow-up and collaboration meetings
- Collaborate with colleagues about the individual citizen’s goals and development
We offer
- A meaningful daily life with a great deal of human contact
- Opportunity to make a concrete difference for people
- An workplace focused on development and progression
- Close interdisciplinary collaboration
- Opportunity to influence the development of our workshops and offerings
- A strong collegial community
- A workday where two days are rarely the same
Interested in being a part?
You must thrive with the idea that success is not measured by how much is produced, but by how much each citizen develops. Therefore, citizens’ learning, progression and well-being always come before production. If you are primarily motivated by classic workshop operations and high production tempo, this is probably not the right position.
If you are skilled in your trade, love teaching others and are motivated by seeing other people develop, we would love to hear from you. Experience in the trade arts is an advantage, but not a requirement.
