Ambitious

What does it mean?

Ambitious is a personal competency word often used in job postings and CVs. Employers use it to describe candidates who set high goals, work hard to achieve them and actively seek new challenges and responsibilities.

In an application, show ambition with concrete examples: promotions, exceeded targets, completed education alongside work, or initiatives you started yourself. Avoid empty claims — "I am ambitious" without evidence is weak.

Ambition should be balanced with realism and teamwork. Danish employers often value collaborative culture; pure individual ambition without regard for colleagues can be a negative signal.

Synonyms in English postings: driven, goal-oriented, high-performing, self-motivated.
