Analytical

What does it mean?

Analytical competency is the ability to examine information systematically, identify patterns and relationships, and use logic to solve problems and make decisions.

In job postings, analytical skills are especially common in finance, consulting, IT, research, engineering and management roles. Employers look for evidence that you can handle data, structure problems and present clear conclusions.

Demonstrate analytical skills in your CV with examples: data analysis projects, process improvements based on metrics, troubleshooting complex systems, or research work with documented methodology.

Related terms: critical thinking, problem-solving, data-driven, structured approach. Tools that signal analytical work include Excel, SQL, Python, Power BI and statistical methods.
