Work injury insurance

What does it mean?

Work injury insurance (arbejdsskadeforsikring) is mandatory insurance that covers employers when employees suffer work-related injuries or occupational diseases. Without valid insurance, the employer may be liable to pay compensation directly and face fines.

The insurance works with the Labour Market Insurance (AES) system. When a work injury is recognised, compensation can cover treatment, loss of earning capacity and permanent injury.

As an employee you do not take out this insurance yourself — it is the employer's obligation. Verify that your employer has valid coverage if you work in high-risk sectors.

If injured, follow reporting procedures and keep documentation of the incident, medical records and communication with your employer and insurance.
