Industry sector

What does it mean?

Industry sector (brancheområde) classifies businesses and jobs by type of economic activity. Common sectors in Denmark include finance, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, public administration, IT and energy.

Targeting a sector focuses your job search, networking and skill development. Each sector has its own pay levels, collective agreements, recruitment channels and culture.

In applications, show sector-relevant experience and terminology. Transferable skills matter, but employers prefer candidates who understand sector-specific regulations, customers and workflows.

Statistics Denmark and job portals use standard industry codes (DB07/NACE) to classify sectors — useful when searching labour market data and salary benchmarks.
