Unemployment benefit rules

What does it mean?

Unemployment benefit rules (dagpengeregler) define who can receive dagpenge, how much, for how long and under what conditions. Core requirements: a-kasse membership (typically 1 year), work requirement (1,924 hours in 3 years) and availability for work.

Benefit rate is up to 90% of previous income capped at a maximum rate (adjusted annually). Standard duration is up to 2 years within 3 years, with possibilities to re-earn entitlement through work.

Obligations include: registration on jobnet.dk, active job search, attending meetings, reporting income and accepting reasonable offers. Violations can trigger waiting periods or suspension (quarantine).

Rules change with political reforms — stay updated via borger.dk, your a-kasse and official guides. Special rules apply to graduates, self-employed and cross-border workers.
