What does it mean?
Job centres (jobcentre) are run by municipalities under the Danish Agency for Labour Market and Recruitment. They register unemployed citizens, offer guidance, activation programmes and coordinate with a-kasser on benefits.
When unemployed, you must meet your job centre for interviews, follow your job plan (samtale/booking) and accept reasonable activation offers. Non-compliance can affect benefits.
Services include CV help, job matching, wage subsidy placements, company internships and referrals to training. Quality varies by municipality — build a constructive relationship with your caseworker.
Your a-kasse handles unemployment benefit payments; the job centre handles employment policy and activation. Both are important contacts during unemployment.

Two-week rule
To qualify for unemployment benefits you must join an unemployment fund (a-kasse) within two weeks of finishing your education. Once you join, there is a mandatory waiting month, meaning you receive your first benefit payment one month after your education ends.
