Hourly paid

What does it mean?

Hourly paid employment (timelønnet) remunerates each hour worked rather than a fixed monthly salary. Typical in retail, hospitality, cleaning, agriculture and temporary agency work.

Pay includes base hourly rate plus supplements for evening, weekend, public holiday and overtime per collective agreement or contract. Hours may vary week to week — income is less predictable than salaried roles.

Rights differ somewhat from salaried employees: notice periods often follow collective agreements (HK, 3F etc.) rather than the Salaried Employees Act. Holiday pay accrues as 12.5% of earnings.

Track hours carefully and verify payslips. Union membership helps ensure correct supplements and challenge underpayment.
