About the job

Do you have experience with children with special needs, and do you thrive in an active 1:1 relationship? Then you could become an important support for a 9-year-old boy who loves movement, play and safe, predictable frameworks.

About the task

You will be a steady support for a 9-year-old boy with autism and developmental disability. He needs close 1:1 support, clear structure, and a calm staff member who can create predictability.

The boy is energetic, enjoys movement and thrives especially well with outdoor play, trips to the playground and running in the forest. He also enjoys activities such as puzzles, music, soap bubbles, balloons and sensory-stimulating toys. Your task is to create activities that fit his pace and needs. Since he has no sense of danger, it is important that you stay close by and have an overview.

The task includes assistance with personal care, including bathing, diaper changing and toilet training. In addition, you will support during meals, where the focus is to motivate and guide the boy to gradually become more self-reliant.

The boy does not communicate verbally and uses only a few English words. Therefore it is important that you can communicate in English and with the parents, who do not speak Danish.

The boy has food allergies and an EpiPen that must be used in case of an allergic reaction. The family provides a thorough introduction. He also has asthma, and the parents handle all medication management.

About you

You may be a trained pedagogue or a staff member with relevant experience from working with children with special needs. You will meet the child with calmness, patience and clarity and thrive in an active daily routine, where you participate in play and movement. At the same time you can create structure and safe surroundings, be present and set clear boundaries when the situation calls for it. Since the collaboration with the family takes place in English, it is a prerequisite that you can communicate in English.

It is an advantage if you have a driver's license. Alternatively, you must be willing to cycle on the family's cargo bike, which is provided.

Working hours

The position comprises 16 hours per week. The hours are

  • 2 weekdays per week, 3 hours each after school from 14:30 - 17:30
  • Thursdays 9:30-13:30 (4 hours)
  • Sundays 11:00-17:00

We offer

You will become part of a family-owned company with many dedicated employees. You will have a fixed advisor you can always consult. Outside office hours there is always a staffed answerphone, so you are never alone. Salary and pension in accordance with the National Collective Agreement between FOA and Danish Industry. You are covered by DUOS’ liability and accident insurance and health insurance is part of your pension scheme.

We offer a wide variety of courses, and you receive relevant introduction and ongoing upskilling as an employee at DUOS. And you will not be able to avoid developing yourself both personally and professionally when you work with people with us at DUOS.
