About the job

Advisor for municipalities' work with societal security and emergency preparedness

Would you like to work with national security, crisis management and society's resilience? Would you like to help strengthen the municipalities' emergency services and contribute to the development of the future Danish total defence? Do you have solid experience from the emergency preparedness field and a desire to work at the intersection of politics, advocacy and implementation? Then perhaps you are the one we are looking for for an exciting position in KL’s Unit for Societal Security.

Denmark today faces the most serious and complex risk and threat landscape since World War II. It is the municipalities that stand on the front line when crises strike. Therefore it is essential that the municipal emergency services are as well prepared as possible to prevent and manage the diverse incidents and crises that may arise. We need your help to lift that work.

Your everyday life in KL

As an advisor in KL’s Unit for Societal Security you will play a central role in supporting the municipalities and developing the municipal emergency preparedness effort. You will work closely with municipalities, governmental authorities, other emergency actors and other relevant partners.

You will become part of a unit consisting of seven dedicated employees who together work purposefully to support the municipalities and the municipal emergency services and ensure that they have the best possible framework to succeed with their tasks.

Your primary tasks will include, among other things, to

  • Advise the municipalities and provide professional input to their emergency preparedness work
  • Contribute to the development of the framework for a forthcoming overall total defence
  • Conduct risk and vulnerability analyses and provide advice based on these
  • Assist with professional knowledge and input to KL’s advocacy on the emergency preparedness area
  • Prepare recommendations, guidelines and professional briefs for the municipalities' emergency preparedness work
  • Plan and conduct exercises in collaboration with municipalities and other actors
  • Plan and implement theme days, courses and educational activities aimed at the municipalities.

You should be prepared for a certain amount of travel in connection with meetings, networks and events around the country.

About you

There can be many entry points to the position, but we imagine that you

  • Have solid theoretical and operational knowledge of the emergency preparedness field – preferably with a practical or operational background, e.g., from the armed forces
  • Have insight into the municipalities' conditions and role in the overall Danish emergency preparedness
  • Have experience with – or good understanding of – collaboration with political organizations and decision-making processes
  • Have a strong and relevant network within the emergency preparedness field
  • Have good communication skills and thrive in teaching as well as facilitating processes
  • Work in a structured, analytical and independent manner, but also thrive in close collaboration with others

We offer you

KL’s Unit for Societal Security is anchored in KL’s Office for Climate, Environment and Societal Security. The office consists of about 40 employees, working with a wide palette of disciplines.

We offer an exciting and societally important position with great opportunities for personal and professional development. You will be part of a strong professional and social environment in an interest organization with strong political influence and impact on societal development. You will have plenty of responsibility and influence over your tasks and flexible possibilities to organise your working day.
