About the job

Do you want to develop new ways for guests to meet art through creativity and participation?

As part of ARoS' Vision 2033 , we are working to strengthen the museum's relationship with the public and create relevant and engaging encounters with art. In the coming years we will, among other things, place even more focus on creativity and participation.

Our ambition is to establish a permanent creative workshop at ARoS and develop creative formats for children, young people, adults and schools. Therefore we are seeking a dissemination developer with special responsibility for formats where guests have the opportunity to create themselves - for example in creative spaces in the exhibitions, through activities in an open workshop or in workshops and longer-term programmes, where guests work exploratively and artistically with various materials and expressions.

Like the other dissemination developers, you will also be part of the overarching dissemination task at ARoS, Public Engagement, and you will develop and realize dissemination for the museum's exhibitions. The position encompasses concept development, project management, operations and concrete execution. You should therefore both want to develop new formats and be willing to stand on the floor yourself when a workshop, talk or other activity is carried out.

Job profile

Public Engagement consists of five dissemination developers, a student assistant and about 20 dissemination assistants. The dissemination developers each have their own areas of responsibility, and at the same time handle a number of shared dissemination tasks across the museum's exhibitions and program.

You will join the team at a time when the department is under development, and will therefore have the opportunity to shape both the pilot project and the long-term development of creative and participatory formats at ARoS.

Your tasks will include

  • Dissemination project lead on 1-2 special exhibitions per year in collaboration with colleagues across the museum. You will be responsible for developing and realizing the relevant dissemination for the specific exhibition. This could include talks, debates, workshops, performances or other exploratory or experimental formats that bring together art, the audience and current perspectives. You will also contribute to colleagues' project management tasks on other special exhibitions.
  • Project lead on a pilot project for a creative workshop with start in late 2026, including development of concept, content and activities as well as collecting experiences that can inform further development of the area and the ambition of a permanent creative workshop at ARoS.
  • Development of open creative activities and workshops for children, families, young people and adults – both as standalone offers and in relation to the museum's exhibitions. This could also include longer-term creative formats, for example an art school or other programmes where guests have the opportunity to work more continuously and deeply with creative practice.
  • Planning, coordination and practical execution of activities and events. You should enjoy being present yourself and taking responsibility in connection with the execution of talks, workshops or other audience activities.

Your profile

You should have a broad methodological toolkit in outreach and be able to see different possibilities for creating relevant encounters between art and the public. You should be able to think conceptually and ambitiously, but at the same time have an eye for everything that needs to function when we, together with colleagues with different expertise, have an entire building to operate optimally.

We assume that you have a relevant university education in fields such as art history, aesthetics and culture, museology, design, art, cultural mediation or a related area. We expect you to have at least three years of professional experience as well as concrete experience with developing creative or participatory formats at an art or cultural institution.

You may have experience from your own creative or artistic practice, but this is not a prerequisite. The decisive factor is that you have a strong understanding of creative processes and how to create frameworks that give others the desire and courage to explore, experiment and create.

We also emphasize that you

  • have documented experience with developing creative activities, workshops or other participatory formats where guests themselves have the opportunity to create and work with their hands
  • are structured and can handle the coordination and practical tasks that follow when ideas are to be realized
  • can translate artistic and outreach ideas into strong and accessible audience experiences
  • have documented experience with working strategically with different target groups and developing formats that work for both children, young people and adults
  • are a team player who sees good collaboration - within the department, across the museum and with external partners - as essential for our success with our tasks.

We offer

You will have a versatile position where you both take a special responsibility for developing a new area at ARoS and become part of the broader dissemination task around the museum's exhibitions and program. You will have the opportunity to both develop new ideas, bring them to life and meet the visitors when dissemination takes place.

You will become part of a professionally strong and trusting team with four other permanent colleagues. You will have dedicated and competent colleagues who are committed to developing ARoS and together creating world-class experiences.

Your workplace is in the heart of Aarhus, with A ARhus Symfoniorkester, Musikhuset, Aarhus Festuge, Børnekulturhuset, Bora Bora, Godsbanen and Den Gamle By as close neighbours and good partners.

The position is a full-time role at 37 hours per week. You report to the head of Public Engagement, Birgitte Folmann.

Salary and employment terms follow the collective agreement between the State and the Danish Magister Association. The starting salary for a candidate with a master's degree is 35,732 DKK per month including pension. Depending on your relevant professional experience and seniority, the salary according to the basic placement could be up to 43,541 DKK per month including pension.

Additionally, there is a functional allowance of 1,922 DKK per month including pension for occasional evening work and holiday periods related to events in Public Engagement.

If you have any further questions, you are welcome to email the department head Birgitte Folmann at [email protected], and she will get back to you.

The process

The application deadline for submitting CV and a motivated application is Sunday, 18 October 2026.

First interview will be held on 22 October (we only invite to interviews from 20 October), and we expect to select about five candidates for the first interview.

If we deem necessary, we will hold a second interview on 27 October between 8 and 11.

We wish to fill the position by 1 December.

We look forward to hearing from you — and we are excited to read your application and CV.
