About the job

Do you want to make a difference when the house settles down?

Are you a social and health care assistant or a social and health care aide, and do you thrive at creating calm, security and presence when the rest of the house is asleep?

Do you like working independently, taking responsibility and at the same time being part of a strong workplace community where professionalism, collaboration and humor go hand in hand?

Then it might be you we are looking for for a permanent awake night shift at Birkerødpark Care Home.

The night is an important part of the residents’ 24-hour routine. When the house quiets down, our task is to create safety, ensure high professional quality and be present for the residents who need us. Some nights are calm – others require that you can observe, prioritise and act professionally on short notice.

Our core task

At Birkerødpark we work according to a clear common direction

The core task at Birkerødpark Nursing Home is to support our residents in living a meaningful, safe and dignified everyday life – with the greatest possible degree of self-determination, participation and quality of life. We do this through professional care, professional nursing and a strong collaboration between staff, residents and relatives.

This applies around the clock – also at night. We meet each resident with respect for their wishes, habits, needs and circadian rhythm. It is the residents’ home, and it should be reflected in the way we work.

What is it like to be a night shift with us?

As a wake night shift you become an important part of the overall team around our residents.

At night you work independently on your ward, and therefore it is important that you can create an overview, prioritise tasks and respond to changes in the residents’ condition. But although the work requires independence, you are not alone.

Once every night the night shift nurses from the different wards meet for joint professional sparring. Here you share relevant observations, discuss current issues and help each other create a common professional overview of the house. This provides opportunities for both sparring and support – and strengthens collaboration across the departments.

In addition, there is a designated responsible social and health care assistant on each night shift who has a special responsibility for the professional overview and can support and spar with colleagues when situations arise that require a nursing clinical assessment or coordination.

For us, a good night is not only about there being calm. It’s about residents experiencing safety, dignity and care, and receiving the right help when they need it.

Your tasks

Your specific tasks depend on whether you are trained as a social and health care assistant or a social and health care helper, and are based on your area of competence.

The common elements of the work are that you, among other things, must

  • provide personal care and support with respect for each resident’s needs and daily rhythm
  • create calm and security for residents through the night
  • observe changes in residents’ physical and mental condition and respond appropriately
  • document professionally and relevantly in the care journal
  • work preventively and have an eye for changes that require special attention
  • actively participate in the nightly professional sparring with colleagues from the other departments
  • collaborate with the responsible SSA and other night shift staff across the house
  • transmit relevant observations and information to create coherence between night, day and evening
  • contribute to a good workplace community, where we help each other and take shared responsibility.

As a social and health care assistant we also expect that you can independently handle nursing tasks within your competence area – both planned and acute – and maintain professional overview when a resident’s condition changes.

Professional development – even when you work at night

We believe professional development should be for all employees – regardless of which shift you work.

Therefore we also prioritise development for our night shift staff. Twice a year we invite our evening and night shift staff to two days of targeted training, where we delve into relevant professional topics and issues from practice.

The training should strengthen your competencies and prepare you even better for the care and support of our residents, who often have complex and multifaceted needs. At the same time, the days provide opportunities for professional reflection, sparring and knowledge sharing with colleagues across the house.

The professional development continues in everyday life. The fixed meeting between night shifts every night provides opportunities to continuously share observations, use each other’s competencies and together find professionally sound solutions.

We believe that high professionalism creates security – both for the residents and for you as an employee.

What will you get with us?

We offer you

  • a permanent position as awake night shift
  • a workplace where everyone has value – regardless of title
  • colleagues who help each other across the house
  • shared professional sparring with the other night shifts every night
  • a responsible SSA on each night shift
  • hands-on management that wants to hear your ideas
  • a good and safe introduction to the house, the residents and the workflows
  • targeted professional development for evening and night shifts
  • two annual training programs of two days each
  • a culture of respect, humor, professionalism and decency
  • opportunity to influence the development of our practice.

Who do we hope you are?

You are trained as a social and health care assistant or a social and health care helper.

In addition, we hope that you

  • enjoy working as a wake night shift and can work independently
  • are professionally curious and take responsibility
  • can create calm, security and overview – even when something unexpected occurs
  • are attentive to even small changes in a resident’s condition
  • share your observations and your professional knowledge
  • see professional sparring as a natural part of the job
  • collaborate well across professional disciplines and departments
  • meet residents with care, respect and dignity
  • contribute positively to the workplace community.
