About the job

Do you want to work with communication where politics, press and the development of the Defence meet? Become a communications officer in the Navy Programme, and help put into words the future Danish Navy.

About us

Denmark is facing a comprehensive modernization of the fleet. New ships and maritime capabilities shall strengthen the Armed Forces' ability to carry out its tasks at sea, in Danish waters, in the Arctic and internationally.

This is where the Navy Programme comes into play.

We are part of the Danish Defence Ministry's Materiel- og Indkøbsstyrelse (FMI) and are responsible for turning the political decisions on the future navy into reality. It is a large and complex task, spanning from the procurement of new ships and maritime capabilities to their being put into use by the Defence.

Our work includes, among other things, new Arctic ships, frigates, vessels for the Home Guard and capabilities for monitoring critical infrastructure beneath the surface of the sea.

The Navy Programme consists of a number of projects and a common program office (PMO), which supports management and ensures coherence and progress across the projects. We work closely across military and civilian disciplines, where political decisions, technical solutions and Defence needs must come together.

It places great demands on the communications. Complex issues must be explained clearly, different interests must be considered together, and both political decisions and professional progress must be communicated to the right target groups. This is precisely where you, as a communications officer, will play an important role.

About the position

As a communications officer you will be part of PMO and have a broad interface across the organization. You will come close to the program management and have the opportunity to work with communication at both strategic and operational levels.

You will have a varied daily life, where you work with both strategic communications, press and current political agendas. Your main tasks will be to:

  • develop and coordinate the Navy Programme's press and communications effort
  • translate complex professional and political issues into clear messages, news and communication materials
  • advise and prepare the management for interviews, meetings and other external activities
  • contribute to the programme's communications strategy and ensure coherence in communication across the organization
  • follow the political and media agenda and anticipate new communication needs.

You should thrive in a daily life where tasks shift between long-term planning and current matters requiring quick action. Some days you work with strategic communications initiatives, other days you must quickly create an overview, find the right messages and advise on handling a current issue.

You will, in other words, have the opportunity to bring all your communications expertise into play in an organization where the work has great societal significance.

About you

You have a communications professional education or a similar profile with a combination of administration, communication and political understanding.

You are a strong communicator with political understanding and an eye for both the big picture and the important details. You thrive in an organization with many professional disciplines and interests, where you can translate complex issues into clear and targeted communication. You work independently, take initiative and maintain overview, even when pace is high.

We imagine that you

  • have experience from a ministry or a politically led organization
  • have strong written and visual communication skills and can make complex professional material easy to understand
  • have an understanding of political decision-making processes and can translate professional and political agendas into concrete communication initiatives
  • are proactive, collaborative and good at building relationships across disciplines and organizational levels
  • work in a structured way and can handle both long-term tasks and short deadlines
  • can communicate in English, both written and spoken.

Terms of employment

If you are an academic, you will be employed in accordance with the current collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and a number of academic organizations for academics in the state (Academics' Agreement).

If you have an office qualification or another relevant education you will be employed under the current Common Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and Public Employees Organisations – The Public Sector (OAO-S-common agreement) and the organizational agreement for office functionaries, laboratory technicians and IT employees.

Depending on your qualifications and competencies, there is a possibility for negotiation of a supplement. The position is tied to an employer-financed pension scheme.

The workplace is in Ballerup.

As an employee under the Ministry of Defence's area you are subject to certain special terms. You must, among other things, be security cleared and maintain the security clearance throughout the employment. As an employee you are obliged to perform service outside the country, including at units in international operations with a view to participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peacebuilding, humanitarian and other similar operations.
