Companion/Contact person sought for elderly man in Kirke Hyllinge

Would you like to make a concrete difference for another person and at the same time have a flexible part-time job?

We are looking for a companion/contact person for an elderly man in Kirke Hyllinge who is deafblind. As a companion, your most important task is to support the citizen in participating in activities outside the home and to contribute to him continuing to live an active and independent life.

About the citizen

The citizen is a 96-year-old man with combined vision and hearing impairment. He has particular difficulties with understanding speech in noisy environments, but can participate in one-on-one conversations in calm surroundings.

Due to his dual sensory loss, he has difficulty orienting himself in the surroundings, including with regard to traffic, obstacles, cyclists and pedestrians. He also experiences social isolation and needs support for a number of daily activities.

The citizen is seeking a companion who can act as a link to the surroundings through both oral and written communication and help create an overview and a sense of security in daily life.

The citizen values a companion who is calm, patient, present, observant and good at communicating.

The accompaniment is planned jointly with the citizen and can take place on weekdays and weekends by further agreement.

Tasks

The accompaniment can include, among other things

• Reading out mail, letters and other written material
• Describing surroundings and objects in the home
• Support for communication with authorities, health professionals and other people
• Accompaniment during shopping
• Walks and social activities
• Participation in events in the Danish Association of the Blind
• Accompaniment to doctor, specialist, hospital and meetings with the municipality
• General companionship and orientation in the surroundings

The activities are agreed upon in ongoing consultation with the citizen.

There is no requirement that you have a specific education or experience. Interest in people and the right personal chemistry are weighted highly.

A 23-hour introduction to working with deafblind people is provided.

Working hours

There is a grant of 150 hours annually , corresponding to an average of about 12-13 hours per month .

The hours are planned in collaboration with the citizen and can take place on weekdays and by agreement in connection with activities, events and accompanying tasks.
