About the job

A position as a specialist physician with service at Aarhus University Hospital, Orthopaedic Surgery, is available for filling on 1 February 2027. This concerns a position as a specialist within the orthopaedic spinal surgery.

Orthopaedic Surgery, AUH, is led by a department leadership consisting of a Chief Medical Officer, a Chief Nurse, and a professor holding a chair. The department is a forerunner in highly specialised orthopaedic surgery as well as regional and main function, whose professional and developmental status is internationally recognized.

The department has a close interdisciplinary collaboration with a wide range of clinical departments as well as the primary sector, which participate in a coordinated effort for the good, cohesive patient pathway. The department has 11 specialty sectors within orthopaedic surgery. In each sector there is either a leading consultant employed or a designated consultant who is responsible for operations.

There are five professors employed in the department, who are responsible for research, undergraduate education and development in the department. The department handles theoretical and clinical teaching of medical students at Aarhus University and, as a university department, has research, development and educational obligations in relation to the specialty as well as cross-disciplinary.

The department physicians in Orthopaedic Surgery at Aarhus University Hospital participate in daily operation in the sectors and participate in teaching and research activities. They must furthermore be willing to undertake tasks and areas across the department. The tasks broadly involve ensuring development, continuity, communication and quality in daily work internally in the sector as well as in relation to external partners.

Spine Sector

We offer an exciting job, where you as a specialist physician in the sector will work with all aspects of modern orthopaedic spinal surgery in all parts of the spine and in patients of all ages with particular emphasis on high-specialised spine surgery, which includes deformities, spinal traumatology, spinal infections, primary and secondary tumours as well as complex degenerative conditions of the spine.

The spine sector in Orthopaedic Surgery engages in close collaboration with the spinal team at the neurosurgical department (Department of Brain and Spine Surgery). All newly referred spine patients at Aarhus University Hospital are therefore assessed in a multidisciplinary joint spine consultation with the participation of the two specialties, which also jointly operate a shared spinal surgical on-call at specialist level, in which the department physician is expected to be placed, with supervision or in independent function depending on experience level. The spine on-call is a on-call duty from home.

It is expected that the applicant is a specialist in orthopaedic surgery. Great emphasis will be placed on the applicant's clinical experience and extensive background knowledge within general and highly specialised spine surgery. There will also be emphasis on research, innovation, as well as the applicant's knowledge of quality development. Finally, emphasis will be placed on teaching experience of medical students, doctors, nurses and other staff groups.

It is expected that the person employed in the position will have good collaboration skills and will contribute to the development of the sector's research activity.

Salary and employment terms in accordance with the applicable collective agreement. The appointment is conditional on a satisfactory child- and police check and a satisfactory authorization/licence.

Further information about the position can be obtained by contacting Chief Physician Kestutis Valancius at email [email protected] .

Applications must, in addition to information about education, research activities, teaching activities and operative production, include an account of the motivations and visions underlying the application.

The application should be formulated with reference to the Health Authority's 7 specialist competencies. These are part of the application process. The applicant's qualifications will be assessed according to the 7 physician roles.

The application is addressed to Chief Physician Stefan Teglhus.

The application deadline is Monday 30 November 2026 and recruitment interviews are expected to be held in week 50.

The position is, as a rule, a full-time position.

As the Central Denmark Region continually undertakes savings and reorganisations, employees in redeployment who apply for the position will have priority.
