CONTACT PERSON FOR AN ELDERLY WOMAN WITH IMPAIRED VISION AND HEARING – AABENRAA

Do you happen to have a few hours to spare each week, then here is the opportunity for a small, but very meaningful job.

On behalf of Aabenraa Municipality we are seeking a contact person for a lively woman in her 80s, who has both vision loss and hearing loss (i.e. is functionally deafblind ).

The work takes place primarily three hours once a week. There is also 100 extra hours annually approved for various activities beyond the weekly hours. It is the woman herself who plans the tasks, where there may be activities in the evening hours.

In addition, 13-23 hours per year are allocated to you for training and meetings with the deaf-blind consultant .

Communication takes place via clear and direct speech. There is a strong emphasis on good communication skills, where the voice type is crucial for the woman to hear.

The woman is very active and curious, enjoys following societal development and is interested in gaining new knowledge.

Tasks

The tasks consist mainly of accompanying, describing the surroundings and supporting communication as needed in connection with

• purchasing clothes, gifts, etc.
• walks – preferably in scenic natural surroundings with description of what is seen
• courses at Fuglsangcentret in Fredericia
• meetings at the Hearing Association
• escorting to lectures and on excursions
• visits to the communications centre in Bov.

In addition, there is reading aloud, e.g. from the newspaper, support with using e-mail and telephone and general conversation and companionship.

If you are not already familiar with accompaniment and description of surroundings, we will of course teach you.

Training

Training takes place with the citizen herself and through instruction, teaching and supervision by CFD's deaf-blind consultants. Here you will, among other things, gain insight into the use of hearing equipment.

You will, as mentioned, also be invited to participate in paid course and theme days, where you also meet other contact persons.

Before you begin the work, you must complete an e-learning course (total about 2.5 hours), which provides an introduction to the work. This training takes place at your own computer, and you will be paid for it.

Salary and terms of employment are negotiated with Aabenraa Municipality, which is the employing authority.
