Create calm and security for a man with dementia in Slagelse

Can you create calm and structure and maintain patience when a citizen/resident needs close support? We are seeking an employee for a 79-year-old man.

About the task

The task is with a man with Alzheimer's, who lives in a care centre and needs 1:1 support around the clock. He requires a calm and recognisable everyday life, where fixed routines and clear guidance help him maintain an overview and security. He uses a rollator and a wheelchair.

He is social and appreciates small conversations, especially when you show interest in his previous work life, upbringing and student days. He loves classical music, including Maria Callas, and enjoys when you read or tell him about the musician he listens to. The music can also be a way to motivate him to participate in the care home’s joint activities.

His dementia means that he may have difficulty engaging with others and waiting to have his needs met. He can become very insistent and be hard to distract once he has set his mind on something. At the same time he becomes easily overstimulated and needs your help to find a suitable balance between activities, company and calm in the apartment.

You support him in all daily tasks, including dressing and full personal care. You also help him in dealing with the other residents and take the initiative for activities that suit his energy level. This can include watching a series together or taking a walk outside.

About you

You are unskilled and would preferably have experience with people with dementia. The most important thing is that you have patience and can remain calm while meeting him in a friendly and acknowledging manner. You are attentive to his signals and use them to tailor your support and provide clear guidance in the individual situation.

As part of your onboarding you complete e-learning in transfer, ergonomics and hygiene.

Working hours

The position is 12 hours per week with one fixed shift

• Odd weeks: Monday 08:00–20:00.
• Even weeks: Friday 08:00–20:00.

In addition, it is a strong wish that you are able to take extra shifts during holidays and sickness in the team.
