About the job

The Joint Secretariat for the Children's and Family Department and the School Department in Silkeborg Municipality is seeking a development consultant with a strong generalist profile for a maternity leave cover from January to December 2027 with a focus on the day care sector. We are looking for you who have a Master’s degree in social science and preferably several years of relevant professional experience from the children and youth field in a similar secretariat role.

Do you want to work closely with decisions and help create good frameworks for children, young people and families? Do you have an eye for both the political agenda and the practical task execution – and do you thrive in solving problems and creating forward motion? Then you might be the person we are looking for.

In Silkeborg Municipality we work ambitiously to provide high quality services for children – both in the general area, the special needs area and in initiatives aimed at children, young people and families in vulnerable positions. As a development consultant, you will help connect professional knowledge, political priorities and concrete solutions across the two departments.

Your primary tasks

You will have a broad consultancy role with tasks within executive support, coordination and development tasks, and you will deliver well-developed products that can be used in leadership and decision-making processes, etc.

Examples of tasks you will be involved in

  • Plan, coordinate and drive development tasks and cross-cutting processes in collaboration with managers, professionals and colleagues.
  • Collect, analyze and disseminate knowledge and data as a basis for priorities and development in the children and youth area.
  • Coordinate contributions to consultation responses, reports and other joint deliveries.
  • Support meetings and follow up on decisions so that agreements are translated into action.
  • Occasionally prepare agenda items, decision briefs and memos for political decision-making and administrative leadership.
  • Handle ongoing secretariat tasks and manage questions that require a quick overview and an accurate written response.

The concrete portfolio of tasks is planned on the basis of the needs during the maternity period and your competences. We place emphasis on your willingness to provide executive support, your independence in task execution and your responsibility for the common ongoing tasks together with nearby colleagues in a work community focused on the day care area.

What this entails is that you

You have a relevant social science education, e.g. political science or similar. We would like you to have several years of relevant professional experience from the children and youth sector, preferably the day care area, ideally from a similar secretariat function in a politically governed organization.

Therefore it is important that you

  • Plan and drive tasks independently, keep track of deadlines and follow up until the task is solved.
  • Write clearly and precisely and be able to render complex issues communicatively accessible to different target audiences.
  • Work in a structured, analytical manner and be able to gather knowledge and different perspectives.
  • Create good collaborative relations and involve the right colleagues and partners.
  • Be curious, flexible and ready to act when a new or unexpected task lands.
  • Have political and organizational understanding and navigate the interplay between politics, administration and professional practice.

You do not need to know all parts of the children and youth sector in advance. The important thing is that you have a solid professional foundation, can quickly get up to speed in new contexts, and know when others' knowledge is needed.

We offer

  • A job with meaning and tasks close to the development of the children and youth area.
  • A good working environment and a professional work community.
  • Professionally engaged and interested colleagues with different professional backgrounds.
  • A job with variety, development opportunities and flexibility.
  • Good collaborators both internal and external.
  • A job with a high degree of independence, room for remote work and expectation to be an active participant.

About us

The Department for Children and Family in Silkeborg Municipality includes the day care sector, the family and child disability area and public health nursing. The School Department includes the school area, PPR area and dental service.

You will be employed in the Joint Secretariat for the Department of Children and Family and the School Department and report to the section head of the Joint Secretariat. The secretariat comprises several different professional fields and is tasked with supporting strategic work, executive support and professional development for the entire 0-18-year area. We value work communities that are practical and dialogue-oriented in collaboration with management and colleagues. You will become part of an environment where we collaborate broadly and focus on quality in our work.
