Dynamic and visionary specialist physician for our geriatric department at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital

We are seeking an engaged consultant in internal medicine: geriatrics for the Department of Medical Diseases at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital with start date on January 1, 2027 or by agreement.

Geriatrics at Herlev and Gentofte Hospital is a dynamic area in development. We work purposefully to strengthen the geriatric care across the hospital, across specialties, and in the local health services. We prioritize high clinical quality and have a particular focus on translating evidence-based knowledge into concrete improvements in daily clinical practice.

We are therefore looking for a colleague who both is passionate about broad geriatrics and wants to contribute to the development of our field.

About us

The geriatric area is part of the Department of Medical Diseases, which also includes Infectious Diseases, Respiratory Medicine, Endocrinology, and broad internal medicine.

We have a large and engaged group of specialists characterized by high professional standards, close collegial sparring, and strong cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Our geriatric functions span a wide range and include

• Geriatric ward with 30 beds , including special intermediate beds (IMA) for patients with complicated delirium. The IMA beds have increased nurse staffing with personnel who have undergone targeted competency development and have particular experience with this complex patient group.
• Geriatric team in the Emergency Department at Herlev Hospital where we contribute to early assessment and planning of good patient pathways.
• Geriatric Clinic at Gentofte Hospital with fall assessment, including regional fall function, general geriatric assessment, and oncogeriatrics.
• Cross-cutting geriatric functions including orthogeriatrics, urogeriatrics, and perioperative geriatrics. We have just established a structured collaboration with the urology department and are working to further develop the perioperative approach in collaboration with other surgical specialties.
• Expert function in the hospital memory clinic.

We also have many years of experience with outreach geriatric functions, including assessment and treatment of patients in their own homes with both cognitive and somatic problems.

Common to our functions is the desire to offer holistic and coherent patient pathways, where we continually develop and implement evidence-based interventions.

New tasks in the local health care

From January 1, 2027, we will take over the medical care responsibility for citizens on health and care placements (SOP) in our catchment area as part of the health reform.

It is expected that the function on the health and care placements will form part of the applicant's future work tasks in combination with the department's other geriatric functions.

Research and education

We have an active geriatric research environment with a chair professor, clinical research lecturer, postdocs and PhD students. Teaching, supervision, and professional development are an integrated part of our daily work, and there are good opportunities to engage in research and quality development.
