About the job

External lecturer in English-D Danish translation

At the Department of English, Germanic and Romance Studies (EGR), University of Copenhagen, Faculty of Humanities, there is a permanent external lecturer position in English-Danish translation to be filled 1 February 2027.

The English program at EGR is characterized by an interdisciplinary approach to the program's various core disciplines, as well as an understanding of analogue and digital tools and their influence on translation processes and products. It is therefore an advantage if you can document that you have worked with such approaches.

As an external lecturer you will independently plan and conduct teaching, teaching evaluation and examination at both BA- and MA-levels. Teaching at Open University (evening class) may occur. You can find more information about the English program, study regulations and courses here: https://www.ku.dk/uddannelse/studieordninger/engelsk . Questions about the position can be directed to the Head of Education Kamilla Kraft ( [email protected] ) or the Study Leader Christian Jensen ( [email protected] ).

The qualification requirement is a relevant master's degree and relevant professional experience or a full position at another university. Professional experience can for example be teaching in upper secondary school, publishing house work, translation work and much more. Additional qualifications, such as particular specializations and competencies, will also be considered in connection with the application.

Applicants are requested to enclose documented information about practical and teaching experience. If you have a full position at another university, additional professional experience is not a requirement.

The position is described in Regulation on the position structure for scientific staff at universities BEK no. 1443 of 11/12/2019 and in Agreement on external lecturers at universities among others under the Ministry of Education and Research.

Qualification requirements

The qualification requirement is a master’s level and either

Relevant professional experience at a high level that has not been obtained through a university, scientific appointment, or

Employment in a scientific main position at another university than the University of Copenhagen.

Teaching qualifications are part of the assessment of the applicants.

If you are hired on the basis of your relevant professional experience you must have in-depth, current knowledge about the field/application within the subject area. This is gained through employment within the field/area.

Since teaching qualifications are part of the assessment basis, you must enclose information about previous teaching activity. All who teach must prepare and continuously maintain a teaching portfolio.

Salary and other terms of employment

Salary and other terms of employment are in accordance with the agreement between the Danish Tax Authority and AC on external lecturers at universities under the Ministry of Education and Research.

The employment is permanent. The working hours connected with teaching must not exceed 500 hours annually. If necessary for the planning or execution of teaching, the working hours may, however, amount to up to 780 hours annually.

The hourly wage per working hour is DKK 314.49 plus holiday allowance (relevant level).

Contact

If you need further information, you can contact the Head of Education Kamilla Kraft ( [email protected] ) or the Study Leader Christian Jensen ( [email protected] ).

The application must include

  • A motivated application

  • Teaching portfolio (see this link )
  • Master’s and possibly Ph.D. certificate

Publications do not need to be enclosed.

The further process

After the application deadline, the hiring authority, with advice from the appointment committee, selects which applicants should be assessed. All applicants will immediately thereafter be notified whether their application has progressed to assessment by an external expert. The selected applicants are informed of the assessor, and each applicant gets an opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment concerning the applicant themselves.

After prioritizing the qualified applicants, interviews are held, after which any appointment is offered.
