About the job

Engineer with technical responsibility for Denmark's largest materiel acquisition in history

Do you want to lead the technical work to establish Denmark's new ground-based air defense? The Ground-Based Air Defense Program is conducting the largest materiel acquisition in recent times, and we are now seeking engineers who want to be technical frontrunners for the cross-cutting Operations Center, Surface to Air Missile Operations Center (SAMOC). You will have a unique opportunity to influence both the system's technical direction and the organization that in the coming years will develop, implement, operate and maintain Denmark's air defense.

About us

The Ground-Based Air Defense Program (JBL) is of highest political and defense priority due to global security-political developments. Therefore, the JBL program operates as an independent program, directly under the Defence Command.

JBL is organized into eight tracks, where you become part of the Capacity Center track (KC), which is responsible for all aspects within the material, technical and logistical foundation during the build-out of the new air defense capacity. KC covers everything from implementation and operation support to directives and documentation.

Due to the high political priority, our team is in significant growth and is expected to grow from 23 employees today to 35+ by year-end. We are building what corresponds to a medium-sized Danish company internally in the defense at record speed, and you will thus become part of a team of new hires where collaboration, knowledge sharing, can-do attitude and the joint development of workflows, structures and a solution-oriented culture are an important part of everyday life.

About the position

You will have professional responsibility for one or more of the system's subcomponents and you will become the area's technical authority and thus a central actor in the establishment of the upcoming capacity center.

This job advertisement fills several positions. Common for the positions is that you will have responsibility for:

  • Ensuring the overall technical overview and the system's technical integrity, as well as ongoing assessment and improvement of the quality of the capacities, with the aim of developing and optimizing the preconditions for the operational conditions to ensure maximum combat power.
  • Planning and execution of technical case processing, verification, testing, documentation assessment and system analyses, as well as development of concepts and documentation for maintenance, operation and authorities.
  • Material and IT security, configuration management and technical decisions with long-term operational significance, and contributions to the development of processes and structures that will define the Capacity Center's operation.
  • Technical dialogue and coordination with suppliers, partners, external authorities and users who are the operational units.

The following positions are desired

  • System Architect: Overall responsible case handler for the cross-cutting architecture of the ground-based air defense system. This means you must have an overview of how the different weapon systems connect with SAMOC, and how SAMOC connects with the National Air Operations Center (NAOC). The work is carried out in close collaboration with the rest of the Defense's system and IT architects.
  • System Owner: Responsible case handler for the SAMOC capacity.

When applying you will be assessed for both positions, but please indicate which one interests you.

As we build a completely new defense capacity, you will, together with other specialists and leaders in the JBL program, have a great deal of independence and influence on your area of responsibility both now and in the long term.

The positions require close collaboration with your own team, other JBL program technical specialists, operational personnel, program management and external suppliers. You can expect travel activity both to national service locations and to international suppliers, system tests and workshops.

Your fixed place of work will be in Ballerup, with the possibility of home office.

Why this work is unique

You will be assigned technical responsibility for high-tech systems, with a central role in building the overall missile defense system. You will therefore have the opportunity to:

  • Be the technical frontline for some of Denmark's most advanced military systems.
  • Set the direction for how the system is implemented and operated in practice.
  • Influence technical decisions that will apply for the coming decades.
  • Collaborate directly with international suppliers and follow the systems from factory to operational unit.
  • Shape an entirely new organization and contribute to its structure, processes and professional culture.
  • Combine strategic technical responsibility with concrete system-near work and operations-focused activities.

There are no similar positions in Denmark with this combination of responsibility, technological complexity and national significance.

About you

You have a technical background, preferably as an engineer, and experience with complex systems is an advantage. You have technical understanding, an overview and can translate ideas into concrete solutions. You enjoy collaboration and taking responsibility in a dynamic everyday work.

We would like you to

  • Have technical overview and understanding.
  • Translate ideas and strategies into solutions.
  • Be a team player who collaborates effectively with colleagues, users and suppliers.
  • Be curious and development-oriented.

We offer

  • Professional influence and technical responsibility.
  • Work with advanced systems and new technology.
  • Opportunity to shape a new capacity center with significance for Denmark's security.
  • An engaged and development-oriented environment.
  • Flexible working hours and the possibility of home office.

Employment terms

Employment is according to the current agreement for academics in the state (Academic Agreement). Remuneration is based on qualifications, and there is possibility for negotiating supplements. The position is covered by an employer-funded pension scheme.

The workplace is in Ballerup.

As an employee under the Ministry of Defence, you are subject to some special terms. You must among other things be security-cleared and maintain the clearance throughout the employment.

As an employee you have a duty to perform service outside the country, including at units in international operations with a view to participating in conflict prevention, peacekeeping, peace-enforcing, humanitarian and other similar operations.
