About the job
Do you want to put your professional expertise to use in new ways? At Clinical Pharmacy at Herlev Hospital you will be part of an interdisciplinary collaboration, where you work with among others doctors and nurses, meet patients and relatives, and convey your knowledge about medicine. We are looking for you who are curious, proactive, willing to share your knowledge and throw yourself into new situations – even when you haven't tried it before. You do not need to know everyting from the start, but you should be eager to learn and develop yourself.
About the job
With us you can challenge and strengthen your professional skills as well as make a difference for both the patients and the healthcare system as a whole. We work for a better, more rational and safer use of medicines in the hospital.
In Clinical Pharmacy you will be part of an interdisciplinary daily life, where you work closely with pharmaconomists, pharmacists, doctors, nurses and other professional groups. You should bring your pharmacological knowledge into play, share your professional expertise and convey knowledge about medicine so it makes sense for those you collaborate with – and for the patients.
We place emphasis on good communication skills and on wanting to disseminate and teach across professional groups. This can be in daily dialogue with the clinic, in conversations with patients and relatives and in teaching for larger groups of health professionals.
We are about 45 colleagues in Clinical Pharmacy at the Pharmacy Unit at Herlev-Gentofte Hospital. We work in teams that allow influence on your tasks and your daily structure.

Our employees say
- ”I think there is a good collegial camaraderie at the Herlev/Gentofte site. There is an opportunity to tackle many different professional areas that you can specialize in.”
- “My highest priority when I applied for the job was clearly to participate in coordinating the various professions in a hospital, which contributes to greater patient safety and is very satisfying for my daily life.”
Responsibilities and content
Our daily life includes tasks in Medication Management and Medication Service, which in some cases merge. You must be able to handle both functions and you will receive thorough training here.
You will work closely with pharmaconomists and pharmacists at the Pharmacy Unit as well as the clinical staff on the wards.
Medicine management
- Dispensing and administration of medicines to admitted patients and packing medicines at discharge. Since not all patients can take the medicines themselves, you must be prepared to help them
- Professional sparring with doctors, nursing staff and colleagues about the patient's medicine, and collaboration with the patient themselves
- Put your pharmacological knowledge into use and develop your communication skills
- In Medicine Management the daily meeting time is around 07:00 - 14:24
- After a possible job interview, there will be an opportunity to shadow a pharmaconomist in medicine management to test whether it is for you.
Medicine Service
- Engage in dialogue with the department staff regarding choice of medicines and answer medicine-related questions from the clinic.
- Put your pharmacological knowledge into use and develop your communication skills
- Ensure that the necessary medicines are available with a view to optimal economic use, less waste and proper inventory management of the departments' medicines
- Check that medicines are stored correctly and perform expiry checks
- In Medicine Service the daily meeting time is 8.00 – 15.24
Regardless of whether you work with Medicine Management or Medicine Service, dialogue and dissemination are central parts of the job. You should want to share your knowledge and make it usable for others – both in daily contact with the clinic staff and in teaching situations where you convey to doctors, nurses and other professional groups.
You should also be able to meet patients and relatives with openness and curiosity and adapt your communication to the individual. You do not need to be experienced in communication and teaching from the start, but you must have the courage to speak up, take the floor and develop your dissemination skills in practice.
At the Pharmacy Unit we are about 45 colleagues, organized into four teams. We collaborate across teams, are united in the task, and have the opportunity to take special responsibilities and influence the development of our work. We also face new possibilities in connection with both the merger and the health reform, which invites us to be curious about how we solve our tasks, and how we can develop our professionalism and collaboration.
