FE is seeking a Storage and Backup Specialist

At FE we are indeed looking for a Storage and Backup Specialist for one of the world’s most dynamic intelligence services.

You will face challenges and have room to develop

The position is demanding, but it also offers a wide range of exciting tasks within storage and backup. You will work closely with colleagues in operations, networking, security and development. You will become part of a professional operations environment with an informal working atmosphere and, at times, a high tempo. Everyday life is often shaped by current operational needs and incidents. You will contribute to the design, establishment and operation of our storage and backup platforms, so that data is always accessible, protected and recoverable.

The tasks include, among others

• Operate, develop and optimize our Ceph cluster, including capacity planning, performance optimization and fault handling
• Deliver storage via the protocols Ceph supports: block (RBD, NVMe-oF), file (CephFS, NFS, SMB) and object (S3 via RGW)
• Operate and further develop the backup environment, including policies, retention, monitoring and testing of recovery
• Ensure that data and systems can be restored when needed
• Automate and document the solutions so that they are robust and reliable in operation

In the position you will apply your professional experience, but much will also be new to you. You will therefore be thoroughly introduced, and you are expected to contribute to planning and solving your tasks in collaboration with colleagues with different backgrounds and competencies.

We assume that you have worked extensively with most of the technologies listed below

• Practical experience with Ceph in operation, including setting up, operating or troubleshooting a cluster
• Practical experience with Linux as well as automation, e.g. with Ansible, Python or similar is a plus
• Knowledge of Ceph’s supported protocols: Block, File and Object
• Experience with one or more commercial storage platforms, e.g. Dell PowerScale (Isilon), NetApp ONTAP or Pure Storage
• Experience with one or more backup solutions, e.g. Commvault, Veeam or NetBackup
• Experience with tape backup or offsite copies is an advantage, but not a requirement. If applicable, you will be introduced to this.
• Experience with message queue technology and proxy/load balancing is a plus
• An understanding of and experience with troubleshooting network protocols.

Your salary package depends on your qualifications

Salary and terms of employment are in accordance with the collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the relevant professional organization, depending on your educational background. In addition, you have the opportunity to negotiate a pay supplement based on qualifications. The average work week is 37 hours, including a paid lunch break. The position includes a pension scheme paid by FE.

As an employee of FE you are subject to certain special conditions. It is a requirement that you can be security-cleared and maintain security clearance throughout your employment. As in the rest of the armed forces, you are obliged to short-term deployments abroad.
