About the job

Start in January 2027 (flexible).

Parental leave cover with possibility of extension.

I am looking for an assistant for my lovely helper team. It is a job with freedom and flexibility – and you have great influence on planning your shifts.

About me

My name is Freja, I am 33 years old, have muscular dystrophy and I live with my partner and our small son aged 2 in our lovely home in Valby.

I became a mother for the first time in December 2024, which naturally fills a lot of daily life. In addition, I am studying an MSc in Digital Design and Interactive Technologies at ITU.

I am a lively and curious woman who loves both travel and everyday magic. I love nature, culture, good food and people, and I am inspired by everything from ceramics and embroidery to theatre, concerts and art exhibitions. Creativity means a lot to me, and I love to create with my hands, especially with clay at my pottery studio in Vesterbro. I am a social person, but I also need quiet and my private space where I can recharge.

My muscular dystrophy means that I have less muscle power and lung capacity, and therefore I prioritise my energy and my strength. I use an electric wheelchair to get around. I can certainly use my arms, but have limited leg strength.

I use a respirator 24/7. This means that I need help with the respirator during the day and a little at night. It may sound advanced, but it is fortunately not rocket science, and you will of course receive thorough training from the helper team.

About the job

You will become part of our everyday life, so it is important that we have good chemistry and can relax in each other’s company. I am looking for a person who is caring, independent and wants to be part of a small team around me and my family.

It is important to me that you want to be part of our team for a longer time. It takes time to get to know each other, and stability is crucial for everyday life to function for everyone. Therefore I hope you are at a point in life where you know what you should do and who you are, and that this job makes sense for more than a single year.

I need help with a bit of everything in daily life – both practical things at home, help with my studies, accompaniment out of the house and help around my son.

Specifically, it can be help with dressing, transfers, toilet visits, bathing, stretching, respiratory help, driving and domestic tasks. I handle most of the personal care myself.

You must also be practically minded and in reasonably good physical shape. I use a hoist for transfers, but you must be able to turn me in an (elevating-lowering) bed. You do not need to have experience as a disability caregiver, as you will of course receive training.

One of my main focus areas is our son, Sigurd, so you must enjoy being with small children. It is important for me to emphasise, however, that it is not your job to babysit my child, but to assist me in being a mother with all that entails. You should not be a nanny, but a mother-helper.

You should help me with various tasks around him when he needs to be puzzle, fed, play on the floor, picked up from day care or when we go for a walk with the pram.

I cannot carry him from A to B myself and therefore rely on your help when he needs to be lifted or held up to me.

As part of the close collaboration you will naturally form a relationship with Sigurd, because he will come to play, cuddle, talk, comfort and crawl on you.

About you

Specifically I am seeking a female helper aged 25-50. You must have a driving licence, be a confident driver and be willing to drive a box van.

I imagine that you are down-to-earth, independent and have plenty of go-getter spirit. You may have humour, be able to take initiative and thrive with both calm days and days where a lot is happening.

It is important that you are reliable and flexible. We are a small team without a temp agency, and therefore we also depend on being able to help each other during holidays and illness. I of course always try to distribute so that it is not the same person stepping in every time.

If you are in doubt whether you fit in with us, our current helper team consists of very different people with different lives – including a textile designer, a home carer, an art student, a student social worker and a pedagogue. Maybe you are also a good match.

Practical

It is important to me that we can plan the shifts together so that the hours fit into your daily life.

The position consists of around 6-7 shifts per month, mainly 24-hour shifts and some 12-hour shifts. The average monthly hours will typically be around 132 hours.

You typically start at 21:00 and are free at 21:00 the next day. This can be flexible.

On overnight shifts you have the opportunity to rest at night, but you must be able to tolerate that sleep may be interrupted if I need to be turned, have help with the respirator or similar.

The monthly number of hours can vary with holidays and illness. You will also have the opportunity to join weekend trips or travels. We have most recently been to Japan, Georgia and Norway.

Your application

We want a personal, descriptive and not too formal application, where you tell, among other things:

  • Who are you?
  • What experiences do you have?
  • How does your daily life fit into the job?
  • How do you envision your role as a helper – both together with me, our child, my partner and my circle of friends?

Salary: 164.86 DKK + allowances.

Application deadline: December 11, 2026. Please send your application as soon as possible.

Start in January 2027 (flexible).

You will hear from me if you are considered for an interview.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards

Freja
