About the job

Do you have your hands firmly on the tool and a desire for a everyday life where you work with both readiness and workshop?

At Midtjysk Brand & Redning we are looking for an emergency response assistant for our fire station in Silkeborg. As a 24/7 shift worker you will have a versatile daily life with both operational deployments, competence development and workshop work. At the same time you will become part of an emergency services team that every day creates security for more than 200,000 citizens in Silkeborg and Viborg Municipality.

We are primarily looking for an emergency response assistant with a mechanical background or mechanical ingenuity. Since we continuously have a need for employees with different technical and craft skills at our fire stations in Silkeborg and Viborg, we also invite you to contact us if you have another relevant background and are keen to become part of the emergency services.

About the job

You will become part of the day-and-night shift force at the Silkeborg fire station, where you will participate in both the operational readiness and contribute to the daily operation in the workshop.

Your everyday life will be diverse and consist of both emergency tasks, competence development and practical work with service, repair and maintenance of vehicles and equipment.

The work takes place in a 5-week shift cycle, typically consisting of 7 night shifts and 3 day shifts. As a night-shift worker, the day rhythm from 08-16 will typically be divided 50% workshop and operations work and 50% competence development and exercises. After 16:00 it is emergency time, where you must be ready for operational deployments together with your watch team. A watch team consists of one team leader and five emergency response assistants, with whom you will have close cooperation and a sense of community. You will usually train together in our gym, and then shop for groceries and cook together.

You must thrive in a daily life where planned tasks and acute events can change the day’s plans at short notice. It requires flexibility, overview and a solution-oriented approach.

Your main tasks

  • Participate in operative deployments and emergency tasks
  • Education, exercises and ongoing competence development
  • Service, fault finding and repair of municipal operating vehicles
  • Maintenance of Midtjysk Brand & Redning’s emergency vehicles and equipment
  • Contribute to workshop tasks and the daily operations at the station
  • Cooperate with colleagues to ensure a well-functioning workshop and emergency service

We imagine that you

  • are trained firefighter (GUI/FUI)
  • have experience with workshop tasks or a mechanical background such as for example passenger car mechanic, truck mechanic, agricultural mechanic or contractor-machine mechanic
  • have experience with or an interest in service, fault finding and repair of vehicles or machines
  • have an interest in IT and technology as well as an understanding of relevant service and diagnostic programs
  • hold a category B driving license. A driving license for category C, BE and forklift certificate is an advantage.
  • are in reasonable physical shape or willing to train to meet the physical requirements the job demands. Our full-time day staff undergo an annual physical evaluation (read more here )

The most important is that you want to use your professional competencies in a different daily life, where you also become part of the emergency services.

As a person we place emphasis on the following

  • work in a structured and quality-conscious manner
  • be flexible and solution-oriented
  • be practically inclined
  • have good collaboration skills
  • contribute positively to the sense of community and the good working environment

We offer

  • A versatile daily life with both emergency tasks and workshop work
  • A high degree of freedom with responsibility
  • Good opportunities for professional and personal development
  • A professionally strong environment with skilled and engaged colleagues
  • A strong sense of community characterized by collaboration, integrity and decisiveness
  • A workplace in exciting development where you can help shape the future
  • A meaningful job where your contribution provides security for citizens and local communities

You will report to the area manager, Jonatan Bay, and you will join a fixed watch team with 5 colleagues, who all place emphasis on a daily life with high spirits and an informal tone. You will also have close cooperation with the workshop coordinator, who has an overview of the day’s workshop tasks and acts as your mechanic professional sparring partner.
