About the job

Do you want to work closely with SSI’s management and help solve some of the many diverse tasks that cut across the institute? Do you want to use your professional skills in a daily routine with both management and department support, legal tasks and coordination of larger strategic areas? Then the maternity leave temporary position in the Directorate Secretariat at the Statens Serum Institut might be for you.

Your day-to-day with us

You will become part of the Directorate Secretariat, which is a small and well-functioning secretariat of eight people – four academics, a secretary, two students and a section head.

The secretariat's main task is to support SSI’s scientific areas and contribute to realizing SSI’s mission to prevent and combat infectious diseases and congenital diseases through research, surveillance, diagnostics and guidance. We work, among other things, with ministerial and executive support, strategy work, coordination of larger professional tasks and legal tasks such as access to information requests, consultations and the legislation program.

One of our lawyers goes on maternity leave at the end of 2026, and we are therefore seeking a colleague for a maternity leave cover in the coming year. The tasks will be adjusted to the candidate we hire, but may include:

  • Processing of access-to-information requests and responding to citizen inquiries in collaboration with the secretariat's student assistant and jurist
  • Preparation of bills, regulations and consultation responses in collaboration with the institute's other professional and supporting departments
  • Ministerial support, including coordinating requests from the Ministry of Interior and Health’s department and other authorities in the group
  • Executive support, including preparing case files and decision papers for SSI’s management and some PA tasks for the managing director
  • Coordination and follow-up on larger focus areas, e.g., the Directorate Secretariat's tasks within crisis management and emergency planning

Tasks are varied, and you will have a great influence on how you solve and prioritize them. At the same time there is always an opportunity for sparring with both the management and your colleagues in the Directorate Secretariat and the rest of the institute.

You will have a central position at SSI and will therefore have close and ongoing collaboration with, among others, the Ministry of Health and Ecclesiastical Affairs, other authorities in the group and professionals at SSI. You will also work closely with SSI’s management, so it is important that you enjoy working close to top management and with tasks that often require a high degree of confidentiality and precision.

In the Directorate Secretariat we value an informal tone, trust, good collegiality and helping each other. We place a high value on sparring and knowledge sharing and also have room for social activities – e.g., common breakfast and SSI’s summer party, Oktoberfest and Christmas lunch.

Your education, experience and personal qualifications

We are looking for a colleague who is either newly graduated or has several years of experience – preferably from public administration and possibly with experience in management or ministry support.

We imagine that you have a legal, social science or other relevant master's level education.

We also emphasize that you

  • work in a structured way, take responsibility and focus on finding solutions
  • have the desire and ability to collaborate with many different professional groups across the organization
  • can adapt when tasks and priorities change
  • are a strong communicator and convey information briefly, clearly and accurately

The most important for us is that you are motivated for the tasks and eager to learn. You do not need to know everything from the start, but we expect you to be willing to familiarize yourself with new areas, ask questions and develop in the job.

We offer

We offer an exciting and varied job close to SSI’s management and with broad contact to both professional environments at SSI, the ministry and other authorities. You will have the opportunity to develop professionally through varied tasks, close sparring and insight into the work in a large public institution with an important societal purpose.

You will have a flexible daily routine with a good balance between work and leisure. SSI has a 37-hour workweek including lunch break, a flexitime agreement and the possibility to work from home up to two days a week.

Additionally, SSI has an active staff association and sports club with, among others, group training, fitness facilities, Friday bar and various social events.

SSI is centrally located in Copenhagen with good public transport links and free parking on campus.

About the employment

The position is intended to be filled from 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is 37 hours per week. The appointment is valid from the hiring date and for one year forward.

You will be employed under the current collective agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Central Organization of Academics. Employment can be as an administrative officer (fuldmægtig) or a senior consultant depending on qualifications.

Feel free to contact us
