Good food, good working hours and young people in development. The brand new Café Nexus at the Vocational School (Youth Unit Daugård) is looking for a gastronomic employee with a passion for good ingredients, food experiences and young people.

About the job and the tasks

Sourdough, home-baked, open sandwiches with personality, seasonal ingredients and homemade specialties. Is this something that awakens your love of food? And what if you could also have a daytime working day – no evening service and weekend work?

We are looking for a food enthusiast with solid kitchen professional experience who wants to help develop Café Nexus in Daugård. Here you will get the opportunity to use your professionalism, creativity and love of food. At the same time you get a special task: To give young people the opportunity to discover their potential through working in a real kitchen.

37 hours per week. Daytime working hours, as a rule from 8:00–16:00, Monday to Friday. No evening or weekend shifts.

A kitchen with ambitions and room for creativity. In Café Nexus we believe that good food does not have to be complicated. On the contrary, it should be made properly. We want to create a café with soul, good hospitality and a clear gastronomic identity. A place where the raw materials, the taste and the craft are in the center.

We envisage, among other things

• Classic and contemporary open sandwiches with homemade accessories.
• Sourdough bread, freshly baked buns and other good baked goods.
• Homemade cakes and sweet specialties.
• Homemade pickled vegetables, marmalades, chutneys and other homemade products.
• Creative use of ingredients and a focus on reducing food waste.

It is not a finished concept you will take over. You will have the opportunity to help shape the café’s menu, products and gastronomic profile.

We are looking for you who get ideas when you see seasonal ingredients, and who find joy in making things from scratch.

Good food and good hospitality go hand in hand. A good café experience is about more than what is on the plate. It is also about the atmosphere, the interaction with guests and the feeling of being welcomed. You must therefore have a view of the entire guest experience and help create a café where quality, service and hospitality go hand in hand. You must also be willing to share your knowledge and service instinct with the young people, so they learn what it means to take responsibility and strive for others.

A kitchen where young people have the opportunity to succeed. Café Nexus is part of the Vocational School (Youth Unit Daugård) in Hedensted Municipality. Here the kitchen is also a practical training site for young people who must develop their professional, personal and social competencies through participation in a real working community. You are responsible for daily food production and for involving the young interns in the kitchen’s tasks. This requires that you enjoy teaching, can create structure and have an eye for each individual young person’s possibilities.

Some young people need clear boundaries and repetition. Others need new challenges and more responsibility. We believe that people develop when they are met with positive expectations, given responsibility and experience that their effort has value.

You do not have to be a pedagogue. You must be professionally skilled in your craft and eager to use it to develop young people. You will not be alone with the task. You will become part of an interdisciplinary environment with colleagues who have experience with the development and well-being of the young.

Our expectations of you

You may be a trained chef, caterer, open-sandwich expert, baker or have another background where cooking and gastronomy have been an important part of your work. Your exact educational title is not decisive. It is your professionalism, experience and approach to people.

• Have solid experience with kitchen work and cooking from scratch.
• Have professional pride and a sense for taste, quality and presentation.
• Have an interest in baking, open sandwiches and homemade products.
• Are creative and eager to develop new dishes and ideas.
• Have an eye for good service and the overall guest experience.
• Can work independently and take responsibility for the kitchen’s daily operations.
• Have experience with young people and genuinely enjoy working with them.
• Can motivate, guide and teach with patience, humor and positive expectations.

You must also have a driving license.

Salary and terms of employment

Salary and employment according to the applicable collective agreement, with the possibility to negotiate qualification- and function-based pay.

A police check and a criminal record check will be obtained.

The position is permanent and 37 hours per week.

About us

Café Nexus is part of the Youth Unit in Hedensted Municipality. The Youth Unit works with young people aged 15 to 30 and focuses on creating opportunities for education, employment and participation in meaningful work communities. We believe that all young people have potential, and that development happens through participation, relationships and real tasks.

One of our values is that the method does not necessarily have to make sense for your professional field – but it must always make sense for the young person. This means that we actively use our professional skills, but are also willing to be curious about what works for the individual.
