About the job

Are you passionate about high professionalism, intensive nursing, and a specialty where you make a difference for the smallest patients and their families every day?

Then we have an exciting opportunity for you.

We are looking for registered nurses for permanent positions with start on January 1, 2027 or by agreement.

The positions are initially 37 hours per week, but we are flexible regarding hours and will find the solution that best fits you and the department's needs.

An exciting expansion of the neonatal area

The Regional Council has decided to prioritise the neonatal area in the upcoming budget agreement. This means that, in time, we will have the opportunity to expand our intensive capacity to 8 neonatal intensive care beds, and therefore we will continually recruit new nurses to our team.

It is a large and important investment in the entire neonatal area at OUH and in future treatment of the smallest and most vulnerable patients. The expansion will occur gradually, and the 8 intensive beds must be established in the second half of 2029.

Now the big and exciting work begins to prepare the expansion. This also means that during the coming years we will continually need more skilled nurses who want to join the journey and contribute to developing our professionalism, workflows, and culture.

When you become part of H5, you are therefore not just part of a department – you become part of an exciting development of the neonatal area.

At Intensive Neonatal H5 we are looking for new colleagues who want to specialise in intensive nursing for premature and critically ill newborns.

Whether you come with experience from neonatal, intensive, or pediatric nursing – or simply want to learn a new specialty – we offer thorough training and a strong professional community.

H5 is today an intensive neonatal department with seven beds. We treat extremely premature babies, critically ill newborns, and children with abdominal surgical disorders.

We are about 50 engaged nurses who together create a strong professional environment characterised by knowledge sharing, development, and collaboration. With us, newly educated and very experienced colleagues work side by side, and we help each other develop – every day.

With the upcoming expansion we also face an exciting development process where we together will help shape the future of H5.

We collaborate closely with doctors and other professional groups and work from a family-centred approach, where parents are an active part of the care. Our practice is inspired by NIDCAP principles, and we focus on both the child’s development and the family’s well-being.

The work involves high emotional demands. Therefore we prioritise a work environment with care, openness, and room for each other.

A safe start – and good development opportunities

We know that intensive neonatal nursing takes time to learn.

Therefore we offer a structured eight-week introductory program tailored to your experience and competencies.

You will become part of a safe and professionally strong learning environment, where you receive close guidance, supervision, and support from experienced colleagues. We have a training nurse with special responsibility for ensuring a good introduction and supporting your professional development throughout the training period.

You will be introduced to the specialty through teaching, theme days, and clinical training, where theory and practice go hand in hand. After approximately three months you complete the department’s ventilator course, where you gain competencies in ventilatory support.

After about two years of experience you will have the opportunity to become part of the department’s transport team and participate in transporting critically ill newborns across the region.

With the upcoming expansion you also have the opportunity to be involved from the very beginning and influence the development of a growing department.

We expect that, in the coming years, there will be more opportunities for both professional development and new colleagues, as the new intensive beds are established.

Flexible work life

You have great influence over your work schedule through HosInfo, where we together strive to create the best possible balance between the department’s needs and your wishes.

It is important that you are prepared for us to be a high-urgency intensive department with nursing staffing needs at all times of the day. This means that evening, night, and weekend shifts constitute a significant part of the work, and that flexibility regarding working hours is a prerequisite for working with us.

We work either

  • 8-hour shifts with work every 2nd weekend, or
  • 12-hour shifts with work every 3rd weekend.

We are looking for you who

  • are a licensed nurse
  • preferably have experience from intensive, neonatal, or pediatric nursing, but this is not a requirement
  • want to specialise in intensive neonatal nursing
  • enjoy both acute situations and longer patient trajectories
  • want to combine high-tech intensive treatment with close and family-centered care
  • are curious, engaged, and motivated to learn new things
  • work responsibly and are conscious of your own competencies
  • value interdisciplinary collaboration and actively contribute to good cooperation with colleagues across disciplines and with our closest partner, H6
  • have an interest in advanced equipment and are confident in medication calculations

Have we sparked your interest?

If you would like to become part of an engaged team with high professionalism, strong collegial culture, and good development opportunities, we would love to hear from you.

If you want to help shape the development of the neonatal area at OUH and put your professional skills to use, it is a really exciting time to join H5.
