About the job

Can you combine strategic overview with clear and present leadership? And would you lead staff who every day create good frameworks for young people and adults with hearing loss?

Then you may be our new Department Head at Planethuset.

You will be responsible for a highly specialized residential facility, where you must ensure stable operations, high professional quality and good conditions for both residents and employees.

Your task as Department Head

You will be responsible for the daily operations and personnel management of about 20 employees. You must create the framework for a cohesive effort based on the residents' needs and the employees' competencies. Sign language is the residents' primary communication form, and there are also deaf employees. Therefore, knowledge of sign language is an advantage.

You must translate strategic goals into concrete practice, prioritise between acute needs and long-term tasks and make decisions, even when everyday life is complex. It requires an overview, decisiveness and a leadership style where you both listen and set direction.

You also have responsibility for good collaboration with municipalities, relatives, guardians and other partners. Here you must be able to gather different perspectives with respect for residents' needs, rights and development opportunities.

A strong leadership community and good frameworks for the task

You will become part of a leadership community with the service manager and three departmental head colleagues across Services for Children and Adults with Deafblindness and Hearing Loss. In sparring about leadership, professional quality and operations and take joint responsibility for a well-functioning organisation.

Planethuset is open around the clock. Therefore, clear communication and continuity across shifts and functions are an important part of the leadership task.

You will receive support from an employee with coordinating functions across the four departments. The function handles, among other things, operations-related tasks and gives you a better opportunity to prioritise leadership and development.

In addition, you will be part of a broader professional community in the Area of Communication and Special Education as well as in the Special Sector. Here you will have the opportunity to contribute with your experiences and draw inspiration across specialised services.

What you bring with you

We are looking for a leader who creates trust, takes responsibility and can bring staff together around a common direction.

You do not need to have experience from a similar service. On the other hand, you must be willing to learn the specialized field and the work with people with hearing loss.

It is clearly advantageous if you have knowledge of or experience with sign language, as it is a completely central part of communication with both residents and deaf employees.

We expect that you

  • Have management experience and are comfortable with personnel leadership, including setting frameworks, following up, giving feedback and handling difficult conversations.
  • Ensure overview and stable operations and can prioritise when everyday life is unpredictable.
  • Can translate strategic goals into clear daily priorities.
  • Collaborate constructively with staff, residents, relatives, guardians, municipalities and other partners.
  • Are responsive, but can stand firm and make difficult decisions.
  • Actively work for high professional quality, well-being and psychological safety.
  • Contribute to the leadership community with sparring, knowledge sharing and shared responsibility.
  • Communicate clearly and properly, even when decisions are difficult.

You must be close to practice and at the same time able to lift your gaze to the service's overall development.

You do not need to know everything yourself. You must be curious, ask questions and know when you should lead and when staff knowledge and initiative should have space.
