Head of the Control Center and Psyd - Operations and Emergency Preparedness Sønderborg

About the position

Drift and Beredskab Sønderborg seeks a leader for the Control Center and Psyd, who can create coherence, presence and clear direction in a daily life where employees work at different times of the day and solve a variety of tasks.

The Control Center is the heart of our operational and coordinating emergency response and plays a central role in handling both daily operations and acute incidents. The Control Center handles all fire dispatches in Sønderborg Municipality and simultaneously coordinates a wide range of municipally anchored tasks – from technical operational challenges to alarms, shift schedules and crisis preparedness. As a leader you must ensure that this complex task portfolio is solved efficiently, professionally and with regard to both citizens' and the organization's needs.

You must be able to maintain calm and overview in pressured and unpredictable situations and ensure stable and professional leadership during crises. In the municipality's crisis management organization you are expected to take on the role of operations leader and lead when the Control Center is activated in the operational staff.

The position also includes leadership of Psyd, which carries out parking control for Sønderborg, Aabenraa and Tønder Municipalities. You will be responsible for the operation, leadership and administration of the unit, including ensuring high service, professionalism and compliance with municipal guidelines.

You will become leader of a total of 16 employees, distributed to 14 employees in the Control Center and 2 employees in Psyd. The employees in the Control Center work in rotating shifts around the clock, which means that you will not meet all employees in daily life. Therefore it is important that you are a strong communicator who can create direction, presence and coherence across working hours and functions. You thrive with distance management and are able to build trusting relationships, even when contact is not physically daily.

You report to the Chief of Emergency and have close collaboration with your leadership colleague for Operational Emergency. Close collaboration between you is crucial for you to succeed with your joint core task.

The Control Center and Psyd are organizationally anchored in Emergency Sønderborg, which also houses Operational Emergency and Fleet Management. Emergency Sønderborg is part of Drift and Beredskab Sønderborg, which also houses Building Operation, Drift and Service, the Contractor Department and Operations Support. Drift and Beredskab Sønderborg belongs to the Technical, Environment and Sustainability Administration in Sønderborg Municipality.

Your primary tasks

• Daily operations and strategic development of the Control Center and Parking South
• Operational reliability of a 24/7/365 function with high demands for robustness and flexibility
• Collaboration with internal administrations, external authorities and operational units
• Leadership as operations lead in the municipality's crisis management
• Coordination of fire dispatches and municipal operation and alarm tasks
• Quality assurance of parking control in collaboration with three municipalities
• Staff management and shift planning
• Budget responsibility and financial management for both the Control Center and Parking South
• Administration and documentation in accordance with municipal procedures

It is an advantage if you

• Have experience from a similar function – preferably in a municipality, police or emergency services
• Have knowledge of crisis management and can act as operations leader in the emergency services
• Have leadership experience and thrive with both operational and personnel responsibilities

• Work systematically, independently and have a high sense of responsibility
• Have strong administrative competencies and understanding of public administration
• Have a talent for finances and experience with administration and budget follow-up

Employment terms

The position is a permanent full-time position, and we wish to fill it by February 1 or as soon as possible.

Salary and terms follow the applicable collective agreement between KL and the relevant trade organization – based on your qualifications.

Application deadline is 22 November 2026, and we expect to conduct 1st round of interviews in week 49. A possible 2nd interview will take place in week 50.
