Anesthesiology Department at North Zealand Hospital has a 1-year introductory position available for occupancy as of 1 April 2027

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a dedicated physician who wishes to specialize in anesthesiology.

The introduction program

The first three months of employment are dedicated to training in anesthesia of uncomplicated patients as well as an introduction to the many aspects of anesthesiology including the acute work. During this period you will work exclusively daytime hours, and we strive to have holidays taken outside the training period.

The clinical work

The introductory training in anesthesiology takes place primarily in the clinic – in the operating room – with the aim of anesthetizing patients safely and efficiently. It is important that you are flexible, including when it means taking on tasks you were not immediately planned for. This is due to our aim to ensure that patients are anesthetized and operated on as planned.

As on-call shift, you will handle many acute tasks including leading the cardiac arrest team and surgery call and participate as a team member on the other on-call rosters.

On-call work

Anesthesiology is also an acute specialty and it requires you to thrive with long shifts and high workload, also at night. Nordsjællands Hospital is a large emergency hospital, and the shifts are usually busy, since we anesthetize patients from a large obstetric department and a large organ surgical department. As on-call you participate in an 8-shift, around-the-clock on-site presence on the operating room. There are four doctors on call: one on-call in the operating room and three deputies, of which one covers the operating room and two cover the intensive and intermediate wards.

About North Zealand Hospital

North Zealand Hospital is an acute hospital in the Capital Region of Denmark with units in Hillerød and Frederikssund as well as the Health House in Helsingør. The hospital has a strong focus on patient pathways, patient safety and the acute patient profile, as well as on research and education.

About the department

The Anesthesiology Department is the hospital's largest department with over 400 staff, of which about 60 are doctors. The department covers the operating room, day-surgery unit, recovery, intermediate- and intensive-therapy as well as the Lægebil Nord and Steril Central.

The department assists annually with about 20,000 procedures in gastrointestinal surgery, orthopaedic surgery, gynecology, obstetrics and ENT surgery. In addition we provide anesthesia for radiological examinations, DC cardioversions and ECT treatment. The department has significant research activity with two professors, senior researchers, PhD students, research-year students and clinical research assistants.

Employment terms

The position is full-time and available from 1 April 2027. Delayed start cannot be offered. Housing can be provided if desired within the allocated housing pool. Salary and employment terms follow the agreement for junior doctors - see link .

Your salary and employment terms Authorized health personnel with patient contact who are educated in another EU/EEA country than Denmark must, upon employment in the Capital Region of Copenhagen, meet the language proficiency requirement in Danish. *Authorized health personnel with patient contact who are educated in another EU/EEA country than Denmark must, upon employment in the Capital Region of Copenhagen, have passed a Danish test (Danish Education 3, corresponding to the 9th grade leaving exam) or at minimum be able to pass the test no later than 1 year after employment, or have achieved equivalent Danish language proficiency by other means.
