About the job

Are you interested in the evaluation and treatment of acutely ill patients, and would you like to try your hand at cardiology? We would love to hear from you. We have two introductory positions available to be filled on January 1 and February 1, 2027, or as soon as possible thereafter.

North Zealand Hospital, as an acute care hospital, has a large catchment area. Here you encounter a wide range of non-selected cardiology and internal medicine patients. You will function as an on-call middle, under close supervision of more experienced doctors and specialists. Each month an introduction is held for all newly employed doctors, and in addition there is ongoing teaching with new topics, Journal Club, presentation of educational cases, and review of the latest treatment guidelines.

The department trains younger doctors in several different pathways, including KBU, HU-general, introduction to internal medicine/cardiology and the main training program in cardiology. The latter takes place in close collaboration with the cardiology departments in Roskilde and at Rigshospitalet. You will actively participate in the department's teaching of younger colleagues, possibly as the main supervisor for KBU trainees.

The on-call structure (A/N) consists of a shared on-call, with 7-8 junior doctors on the medical side, as well as a corresponding number of specialists on call within the various subspecialties. As an on-call middle, you will both have on-call duties in the cardiology satellite unit/chest pain clinic, and via the shared on-call contribute to the management of other acute medical patients.

We thus have a close collaboration with ENA: Endocrinology and Nephrology, LIA: Pulmonary Medicine and Infectious Medicine, GAS: Gastroenterology, ÆMS: Department of Elderly and Multimorbidity, as well as the common emergency department, FAM/Akut Department.

During the daytime there will be opportunities to perform ward rounds on cardiology patients and thus follow up on the patients you have admitted to the chest pain clinic. In addition, there is a large outpatient activity including echocardiography and cardiac CT, as well as evaluation and follow-up of patients in the areas of ischemia, arrhythmia, heart failure and valvular heart disease. You will thereby be able to focus on the areas of cardiology that interest you.

The Cardiology Department, North Zealand Hospital, is a dynamic department that places great emphasis on the education of younger doctors. Currently a special onboarding program for new staff has been developed. In addition, early in the process there is formal training in echocardiography by experienced younger doctors and several specialists, as well as workshops with opportunities for practical training. There will furthermore be opportunities during employment to participate in relevant courses, including financial support for enrollment in the DCS courses Ekko I and Ekko II.

Research is a natural part of the training as a junior doctor, including for doctors in introduction to internal medicine/cardiology. The department has its own research activity and also participates in several clinical studies. There will thus also be an opportunity to try your hand at research if there is an interest in doing so.

The on-call duty is a two-shift operation with on-call at the service location every day of the week. The on-call duty is normally eight shifts. Working hours are from 08:00-18:00 and 17:45–09:15 as pre-call, on-call, and senior on-call. In addition, there is an extra physician during peak loads, Mondays and Fridays, 12:00-20:00. Daytime ward rounds and outpatient functions are normally from 08:00-15:00.

The introductory position qualifies for the main specialty training in the 9 internal medicine specialties.

The position is a full-time position. Salary and employment terms follow the agreement for junior doctors entered into between Young Doctors and the Regions’ Pay and Tariff Board.

We expect you to have completed internship/KBU, with the right to independent practice.

Applicants of all ages, genders, religions, and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to apply for the position.

The application must be received by Monday, November 23, 2026 at 12:00.

For further information you are welcome to contact the education-responsible senior physician, Rolf Steffensen, tel. 48296337, email [email protected] , and/or chief physician, Niels Tønder, at tel. 48297339, email [email protected] .

We look forward to hearing from you.
