About the job

The Research Group for Food Allergy at DTU National Food Institute is seeking a skilled laboratory technician for research in allergy.

In the Research Group for Food Allergy we aim to develop new and improved strategies to predict, prevent, manage and treat food allergy. We focus on clarifying which properties of food proteins contribute to the development of allergy, and which contribute to the development of tolerance, as well as which lifestyle and environmental factors influence this development, and the mechanisms underlying this.

The research therefore includes studies of the relationship between different protein chemical characteristics and the protein’s allergy- or tolerance-inducing ability, as well as the relationship between food proteins’ allergy-inducing ability and the conditions and modes in which we are exposed to them.

The group also contributes to a safe green transition by studying the allergenic potential of new foods and alternative proteins, as well as by developing new and improved methods to predict the allergenic potential of new foods.

The job

In this position you will work closely with researchers, technicians and students. Your primary tasks will be planning, technical execution and analysis of our animal experiments, but other tasks, such as protein chemical analyses of food proteins, can also be a substantial part of the job. We place great emphasis on creating the best framework for our advanced research with the use of laboratory animals, and we are committed to carrying out our experiments in the most animal-friendly way. As part of the group you will have a central role in ensuring high quality of our diverse experiments and analyses of these.

Your primary tasks will span both in vitro , ex vivo and in vivo experiments, such as

  • Participation in planning and preparation of animal experiments
  • Production of special feed
  • Processing of tissues, cells and blood
  • ELISA analyses
  • Gel electrophoresis and immunoblotting
  • Diverse chromatographic analyses
  • General laboratory tasks

Our expectations of you

You must be a trained laboratory technician with experience in animal experiments, ELISA, immunoblotting and protein purification. You thrive in an ambitious, busy and changing, but also varied and exciting environment. Emphasis is placed on being a team player, engaged, service-oriented with strong professional commitment, and on thriving in an environment with many students. In addition, you are expected to:

  • Have good experience with laboratory animal work with rats
  • Have experience with both protein and immunological analyses
  • Be responsible and quality-conscious
  • Be flexible regarding working hours
  • Like to work with different colleagues
  • Have basic IT skills
  • Be keen to work with different laboratory analyses
  • Be able to communicate in English.
