Laboratory technician for the Reference Laboratory for Antibiotic Resistance in the Department of Bacteria, Parasites and Fungi at Statens Serum Institut

We are seeking a skilled laboratory technician who has experience with characterisation of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and who with professionalism and meticulousness will contribute to both daily diagnostics and research activities in our reference laboratory.

Your daily life with us

As a laboratory technician in the reference laboratory you will become part of the team within both routine and research. Your tasks will include:

• Receiving and registering human and veterinary samples
• Handling bacteria on diverse selective media
• Sample preparation for molecular biological analyses
• Multiplex PCR and Sanger sequencing
• Illumina and ONT sequencing
• Resistance determinations by microtiter MIC and disk diffusion
• Data registration in Excel and Access

Your education, experience and personal qualifications

We expect that you are trained as a laboratory technician or equivalent, with experience in:

• Microbiological laboratory work and culturing bacteria
• Primary diagnostics of human and veterinary samples
• AST by MIC and disk diffusion according to EUCAST guidelines
• PC at user level
• IT security and GDPR

About the laboratory

In the Department of Bacteria, Parasites and Fungi (BPS) we perform human and veterinary diagnostics. The position is in the Reference Laboratory for Antibiotic Resistance, where we handle national surveillance of antibiotic resistance among human and veterinary pathogenic bacteria, including MRSA, CPO, VRE and ESBL, and participate in outbreak investigations of these bacteria.

In the laboratory a wide range of analyses are performed, including identification, resistance determinations, DNA sequencing and various PCR methods for characterisation of pathogenic bacteria. We are 10 laboratory technicians and 23 academics in the section.

About the employment

You will be employed under the applicable joint agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Public Employees Organization (OAO joint agreement) as well as the organizational agreement between the Ministry of Finance and HK/Stat for clerks, laboratory technicians and IT staff (HK), cf. the agreement's provisions regarding laboratory technicians.

The employment is a 2-year position with employment start on February 1, 2027.
