About the job

Would you like a versatile daily life in the laboratory, where you work closely with researchers, students and colleagues on both research and teaching?

Institute of Chemistry and Bioscience at Aalborg University is seeking a laboratory technician for a maternity leave replacement, where you will become part of the daily operation of our laboratories and contribute to a wide range of research- and teaching-supporting tasks.

The position is full-time with start on 1 December 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is fixed-term for 1 year, but with the possibility of extension.

Your tasks

You will become part of the Section for Functional Ecology and Genomics, which works with how organisms, from microbial communities to insects and plants, interact and are adapted to different environmental conditions in natural or human-made systems. Our work ranges from growing plants and rearing insects to DNA sequencing and genomics.

The primary tasks of the position are to contribute to the daily operation of our laboratories and to solve various research- and teaching-supporting tasks.

Daily laboratory operations and teaching-supporting tasks include purchasing laboratory materials and recording chemicals, responsibility for cultivation facilities and laboratory equipment, introduction of students and new staff to the laboratory, and instructing students in, for example, the use of equipment and chemical handling. Research-supporting tasks include, for example, maintaining insect populations in the laboratory, collecting plant- or insect samples in the field or in the laboratory, as well as sample preparation in connection with DNA analyses and metabolic analyses.

You will have broad contact and collaborate closely with researchers, students, technicians and other technical staff in the same or other sections. There will be training to the necessary extent.

Your competencies

We expect you to have an education as a laboratory technician or similar, and be interested in biological and biotechnological tasks and issues. You have the willingness and desire for a job with diverse tasks, including being able to learn to operate new equipment and new analytical methods and to find solutions when problems arise in the laboratory. We emphasize that you take initiative, are responsible, can prioritise your tasks and contribute positively to the daily life in the section.

You should have good collaboration skills, including the ability to collaborate and interact with different cultures and disciplines, and master English in writing and speaking at a reasonable level.

Experience from a similar position or with some of the above work areas is an advantage, but not a prerequisite. You can therefore be newly trained. For us, your professional curiosity, motivation and desire to learn are at least as important as your previous experience.

Who are we

With about 200 staff, 75 PhD students and 775 bachelor- and master students on our campuses in Aalborg (main campus) and Esbjerg, we are an important research and educational institution when it comes to creating new fundamental knowledge and contributing to solving world challenges within biology, chemistry, biotechnology, bioengineering, environmental science and chemical engineering.
