About the job
Do you want to inspire children and young people to explore nature – and turn their curiosity into experiences, insights and learning?
Haderslev Ungdomsskole seeks a nature guide for Naturskolen. We are looking for someone who can make nature come alive and feel tangible, and who is keen to develop and implement practice-oriented activities in close collaboration with teachers and educators. With us, nature is not merely the frame for a trip, but a place where children and young people have the opportunity to sense, experience, learn and grow.
About Naturskolen
Naturskolen has existed in Haderslev Municipality since 1988 and has since 2012 been affiliated with Haderslev Ungdomsskole. Naturskolen is run in collaboration with the Nature Agency and primarily targets the municipality’s public schools and day-care institutions. In addition, nature activities are part of the youth school’s leisure offerings.
Our most important task is to give children and pupils exciting, experience-building and educational experiences in and with nature. The programs often take their starting point from the schools' and day-care centers' concrete wishes and themes and support both teaching and daily pedagogical work.
Naturskolen is where there are children who need to get out into nature. Therefore the work takes place both at Naturskolen and in the near surroundings of the schools and day-care centres. We will make it easier for teachers and educators to use the nearby nature as an experiential and learning space in everyday life.
Our tasks
As a nature guide you translate your knowledge and enthusiasm into activities where children and young people themselves explore, test and participate. You solve the tasks in close collaboration with the other staff at Naturskolen, but must also be able to plan and carry out trips on your own. Your tasks will include, among other things:
- Plan, implement and evaluate nature programs for classes and day-care centers in collaboration with teachers and educators.
- Adapt content and activities to the participants' age, prerequisites and learning objectives, so everyone has the opportunity to participate.
- Convey knowledge of the animals and plants of nature and the connections in nature through investigations, stories and practical experiences.
- Organize trips and activities in different natural and cultural environments in the municipality – e.g., in Dyrehaven, by the coast at Årøsund, by Slivsøen, and at the stone cairns in Vedsted.
- Incorporate activities such as insect surveys, fishing trips and cooking over a campfire when it supports the program’s goals.
- Inspire and guide teachers and educators to use the nearby nature and conduct practice-oriented courses for individual staff or groups.
- Contribute to the development of Naturskolen's offerings and, by agreement, participate in the youth school’s leisure activities.
- Take care of practical preparation, handling of equipment and coordination that make the activities work in everyday life.
We are looking for someone who
- has a relevant education, e.g. as a nature guide, teacher, educator or within the nature and outdoor field – preferably combined with experience in nature communication
- has solid natural science knowledge and can convey it in a lively, understandable way and at eye level with children and young people
- can create safe environments and meet different groups of children with clarity, curiosity and a focus on each participant's possibilities
- is outgoing and approachable and has good collaboration skills
- wants to collaborate with teachers and educators on the connection between nature experiences and work back in the classroom or institution
- works independently and in a structured way, while actively contributing to joint planning and development
- thrives in a daily life outdoors across the seasons and with both dissemination, preparation and practical tasks
- has an eye for safety and responsible conduct in nature and can plan activities with respect for both participants and surroundings
- holds a driver's license for a car. A trailer license is an advantage, but not a requirement.
We offer
- a meaningful job where you give children and young people experiences with nature and a desire to explore on their own
- a varied everyday life with nature as the workplace and activities in different places in the municipality
- the opportunity to shape and develop nature programs in collaboration with Naturskolen’s colleagues, schools and day-care centers
- a workplace affiliated with Haderslev Ungdomsskole and in collaboration with the Nature Agency
- a practice-oriented approach where professional knowledge, sensory experiences and participants' own investigations go hand in hand.
Salary and employment terms
The position is a full-time role of 37 hours per week with starting on January 1, 2027.
The position requires a driver's license, as transporting the students is a significant part of the task.
The position is remunerated in accordance with the applicable collective agreement between KL and the relevant professional organization. The expected starting salary lies in the range of 38,500 DKK - 42,000 DKK plus pension, with negotiation for additional allowances depending on seniority. The final placement within the range is based on objective criteria such as relevant education and documented professional experience.
