Who are we

Sensomotor clinic, Ward 2, is one of the 10 wards at Hammel Neurocenter. In the sensomotoric clinic there is room for 11 patients, all of whom have an acquired brain injury requiring specialized neurorehabilitation; the accompanying condition is characterized by severe sensory and perception disorders, cognitive issues, dystonic conditions, paresis, aphasia, and neglect.

The nursing-focused areas in the specialty vary and include, among other things, diagnostics and treatment of incontinence and nutrition, family work, and tasks related to complex medical comorbidities. In addition, there are many pedagogical challenges regarding patients' cognitive issues, an area where imagination and creativity are keywords, and where the nurse works closely with the other professionals in the team.

The nurse is an important actor in planning the patient's rehabilitation, and in practice this means participation in the multidisciplinary development of rehabilitation plans, neuro-pedagogical strategies, scoring, etc. All of which are areas gradually introduced.

The work around the patients is organized in teams. The team consists of nurses, social and health care assistants and physiotherapists and occupational therapists. The team works very independently in planning the patient's neurorehabilitation. The ward is characterized by a good mix of young and mature staff, some newly educated and others with many years of experience. The culture in the ward is characterized by commitment, skilled staff and a very well-functioning collaboration.
