About the job

The Nordic Welfare Center seeks an Operations Director for the Stockholm Office

Would you like to play a key role in the development of the Nordic welfare states? The Nordic Welfare Center seeks an Operations Director for the Stockholm Office – a role for you who want to work in an international environment and contribute to a knowledge-based development in the welfare sector in the Nordic countries.

The Nordic Welfare Center is an institution within the Nordic Council of Ministers with offices in Stockholm and Helsinki. Our task is to be a platform for Nordic cooperation in the welfare field and to contribute to the countries' national development work by developing, collecting and disseminating knowledge.

As Operations Director you will have line management responsibility for the seven senior advisors at the Stockholm Office and will be part of the institution's management team. Together with the staff you will run projects and develop the organization with the aim of contributing to better welfare-related decision-making in the Nordic countries. Currently, the Stockholm Office conducts activities in the areas of disability, children and youth, the elderly, welfare technology and preparedness in welfare.

We are looking for someone who has

  • relevant academic degree,
  • documented experience as a manager, leader or coordinator,
  • ability to steer and follow up activities against set objectives and lead staff toward good results,
  • experience of analysis, inquiry or development work within the public sector, international organizations, research or other relevant activity,
  • knowledge and experience of welfare policy issues,
  • good ability to build relationships and networks between authorities, research environments, civil society and other relevant actors,
  • very good ability to communicate orally and in writing in one of the Scandinavian languages as well as in English.

It is advantageous if you have

  • experience from a politically governed knowledge-based organization,
  • experience from Nordic cooperation or other international cooperation,
  • experience of international policy comparisons in social policy, disability, labour market or other relevant areas,
  • research training.

The position is based in Stockholm with the possibility of additional remote work to the extent that the work allows. Within Nordic cooperation you are employed on a four-year Nordic contract, with the possibility of a four-year extension. Public sector employees in the Nordic countries have the right to take leave to work at the Nordic Welfare Center.

The salary range for the position as Operations Director is approximately 70,000-80,000 SEK/month. Staff recruited from another country are entitled to international allowances as well as compensation for relocation and establishment in Stockholm.

We strive for diversity and an even balance regarding age, gender and national representation.

Application deadline: December 7, 2026 . Applications must be written in a Scandinavian language.

Start date: By agreement
