We will expand the sports surgery sector at Horsens Regional Hospital as part of the “Structural transformation of Orthopaedic Surgery in the Central Denmark Region”.

This means that the sports sector at Horsens Regional Hospital will be the “lead” in sports surgery in close collaboration with the Central Denmark Region Hospital Unit and Aarhus University Hospital in the Central Denmark Region.

There is active work on professional, organizational and technological solutions to rethink and secure patient pathways in a cross-disciplinary and cross-organizational setup with good collaboration relations. At the same time there is high interdisciplinary research activity in the sports sector.

The position is intended to be filled by a specialist in orthopaedic surgery with proven interest and experience in sports surgery.

It is a shift-based position with presence at the hospital.

The Sports Surgery Sector has one chief physician and three consultants. The department is generally research-active and it is expected that one participates in research according to individual wishes and opportunities. Support is offered in the hospital's research unit.

When employed as a specialist you will join the department's leadership group on an equal footing with the other specialists, and you report to the department management.

Your tasks include

  • Clinical professional responsibility, including diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation of patients with sports trauma-related problems.
  • Active participation in research and quality development.
  • Supervision and education of younger doctors and other health professionals in the department.
  • Contribute to achieving the department's production targets, comply with the diagnostic and treatment rights and ensure high quality and patient safety.
  • Participation in general trauma care with a focus on knee injuries

We are looking for a specialist who

  • Has extensive professional knowledge and experience within sports surgery and who wishes to further develop in sports surgery.
  • Is engaged in both clinical and organizational work.
  • Is good at working across professions, cross-organizationally and has strong collaboration skills.
  • Has experience with or interest in sector-relevant research projects and quality improvements.
  • Is a positive, innovative and decisive leader who can inspire and support colleagues.
  • Who can see the potential in transforming from a “choose wisely” approach
  • Actively participates in supervision and teaching of both younger colleagues and students.

We can offer

  • A position in a department with a strong and collaborative team.
  • A safe and warm working environment characterized by a flat structure, humor and mutual respect.
  • Support for further education and research projects in close collaboration with the hospital's research unit.
  • Opportunity for development within sports surgery.

About Orthopaedic Surgery

The department covers orthopaedic surgery at the main function level – and we have competencies within trauma, hand, shoulder/elbow, hip and sports trauma as well as foot/ankle surgery. Additionally, we cover shoulder, foot/ankle, hip arthroscopy and sports trauma at the regional level. Horsens Regional Hospital has status as an Emergency Hospital, where we cover trauma receiving – including acute orthopaedic surgery.

Orthopaedic surgery consists of different functional areas; a clinic and a ward, as well as a number of agreed operative slots in the central operating department (COP) with a “preparation and recovery department (P&RO)” and in the Day Surgery Center (DKC).

The department management consists of a chief physician and a chief nurse, and in addition the leadership team consists of two senior nurses, a chief education officer and a health administrative leader to handle the close management of 15 medical secretaries, 50 nurses and social- and health-care assistants. There are 21 consultants, 10 training doctors, and a varying number of doctors in unclassified positions, for whom the chief physician has direct personnel management.

About Horsens Regional Hospital

Horsens Regional Hospital is one of the smaller hospitals in the Central Denmark Region, and we believe this is one of our biggest strengths. We are there for patients day and night, but we are good at sharing, including about on-call duties. With our hospital size, we have a closeness and a sense of community that larger workplaces may find difficult to match. This makes daily collaboration flow more easily because we know each other and we know we have each other’s backs. Both when we succeed and when we occasionally make a mistake. Then we learn from it together.

Our vision is 'Horsens Regional Hospital as an attractive workplace, educational and treatment site, and partner with focus on both the employees and the patients. You will meet nearly 2,000 colleagues at Horsens Regional Hospital. Across departments and specialties we meet each other as people while we each have our own professional profile. The same applies when we welcome new colleagues.

In 2024 we took the first steps to become a ’Choose Wisely’ ambassador, where we work cross-disciplinary to identify and avoid unnecessary tests and treatments for the sake of patients and the healthcare system's overall use of resources.
