Outings and companionship with a happy man with autism

Do you have experience with autism and developmental disabilities, and do you thrive in a 1:1 role where calm, patience and clarity are important? Then this could be a task for you.

About the task

You will be support for a happy 37-year-old man with autism and developmental disabilities. He is nonverbal and uses a speech-generating device for communication.

He loves going on outings and also enjoys looking through DIY magazines, watching YouTube and using his iPad. Your task is to be with him when his mother needs respite. You can go on outings or stay at home based on his interests and daily form.

As part of the task you help with personal care in the form of diaper changes. Here you need to be able to remain calm and handle the situation in a clear and respectful way. There is a ceiling lift in the home, and he uses a manual wheelchair. The family also has a station wagon used for outings.

About you

You have experience with autism and developmental disabilities, and you are used to supporting people without verbal language.

It is important that you have a calm and patient approach and are comfortable helping with personal care. You must also have a driver's license, as driving is part of the task.

Working hours

The position is 5 hours per month.

The hours are on weekday evenings or in weekend afternoons. The specific meeting times are agreed with the family.
