Senior consultant in anesthesiology sought for the operating room at Gentofte Hospital

The Department of Anesthesia, Surgery and Intensive Care, Herlev and Gentofte Hospital (Gentofte campus)

We are seeking two experienced and clinically strong specialists in anesthesiology for the operating department at the Gentofte campus, one with starting date 1 March 2027 and the other during spring 2027 or by agreement.

The position

The positions are linked to the elective operating room at the Gentofte campus, which is one of Denmark’s largest for planned surgery.

Here you will become part of a specialized professional environment with high activity and extensive experience in planned patient pathways. Responsibilities include

• Management of complex anesthetic courses in a high-speed environment.
• Shared responsibility for patient safety, professional quality and stable workflows.
• Supervision and training of junior doctors.
• Participation in the department’s on-call function on weekdays and weekends/holidays.
• As a rule, on-call duties cover all acute medical needs for patients on the Gentofte campus.
• Possibility to participate in quality, development and research work.

Qualifications

• Specialist in anesthesiology.
• Solid clinical experience and routine from the operating room.
• Ability to maintain overview and make decisions under pressure.
• You are a problem-solver, reflective and view knowledge sharing as a natural part of your daily life.
• Clear patient safety profile and high professional standards.
• Good collaboration skills and respectful approach to colleagues and patients.
• You deliver quality in your work and document this.
• Takes on selected organizational and administrative tasks both internally and cross-disciplinarily.
• Research experience is an advantage. Alternatively documented interest in research.
• Interest in education and supervision of junior colleagues.

About the department

The Department of Anesthesia, Surgery and Intensive Care is one of the Capital Region of Denmark’s largest departments with about 600 employees. The department is organized at both Herlev and Gentofte with a shared chief physician and two head nurses, as well as an overarching research unit.

On the Gentofte campus, the department manages a large elective operating suite with a Receiving and Recovery Department, an Interdisciplinary Pain Center and a Sterilization Department. The primary partners are orthopedic surgery, urology, breast surgery, gastro surgery, dermatology and allergy, as well as cardiology.

At the Herlev campus the department includes the operating department, day surgery unit, two intensive care units (including a specialized team for extended treatment) and a recovery department.

Gentofte Hospital

Gentofte Hospital serves as the Capital Region’s development hospital for planned surgery and is one of Denmark’s largest elective operating departments with more than 110 weekly operating slots in operation.

At the Gentofte campus, the Cardiac Center Copenhagen has been established, which is one of Europe’s largest centers for arrhythmia and ablation treatment, and the Center for Planned Orthopedic Surgery, which handles elective orthopedic patient pathways for the entire region. In addition, a particular focus area at the hospital is the Center for Breast Cancer, which is Scandinavia’s largest unit for breast diagnostics and breast surgery.

Salary and employment conditions

You will be employed in a permanent 37-hour position as a specialist according to the agreement for Junior Doctors.

Expected start date for one position is 1 March 2027, the other by agreement during spring 2027 at the latest 1 June 2027.

Employment after 01.04.2027 is in accordance with the agreement for specialists and senior physicians.
