About the job

Would you like to be close to the pedagogical practice and help create strong learning communities for children with different prerequisites?

At Finderuphøj School we are looking for an educational leader who will have a special responsibility for the pedagogical leadership of the school's special classes. You will become part of the school's overall leadership and play a central role in developing a school where responsibility, professionalism and decision-making power are shared close to the core task.

We are looking for a leader who can set a clear direction and at the same time create space for the staff's professional judgment, initiative and shared responsibility. You must be able to lead through trust, transparency and involvement and have an eye for when you should set the direction, when you should facilitate, and when you should give room for staff and teams to find the best solutions themselves.

About Finderuphøj School

Finderuphøj School is located in the western part of Viborg. The school has students from 0th to 6th grade and includes both general classes and special classes. The school has about 330 students, of which about 60 students are linked to the special department. The special department is one of Viborg Municipality's offerings to students with learning difficulties and receives students with general and/or specific challenges who are admitted to a special educational program.

We are a school with good physical facilities, dedicated staff and a strong community. We have high ambitions for students' learning, well-being, participation and development, and our work takes its starting point from Viborg Municipality's shared platform Diverse in Community.

We believe that no one succeeds alone. Therefore we work with the core task as a common direction and with clear roles, mandates and expectations, so staff and teams have real influence and can take responsibility and make decisions close to practice. We openly share knowledge, dilemmas and decisions, use our diversity as a professional strength and learn together from both what works and what challenges us.

About the position

As an educational leader you will have the overall pedagogical leadership responsibility for the school's special classes. You, together with the staff, must ensure a clear professional direction and create good frameworks for students' learning, well-being, development and participation opportunities.

You will be a visible and accessible leader who is close to the students, staff and the pedagogical practice. You should be interested in everyday life in the classrooms and be able to translate observations, professional knowledge and data into concrete pedagogical priorities.

The task requires both clear leadership and the ability to facilitate professional processes. You do not have to have all the answers yourself, but you must be able to ask the questions that bring staff's knowledge and experience into play. At the same time you must be able to set direction and make decisions when the situation requires it.

You will become part of the school's leadership team, where we share knowledge, perspectives and responsibility across the school. The hallmark of the school's leadership team is psychological safety, reflective dialogues and trust. The leadership team has weekly meetings and emphasizes close sparring, openness and an informal tone.

At Finderuphøj School we want an organization where leadership is not only linked to a title, but is also expressed through staff's professional responsibility, actions and contributions to the community.

That does not mean that everything is up for negotiation, or that the leadership steps back. It means that we deliberately work to create the best possible frameworks for staff to succeed with the core task.

We see TEAL-inspired leadership as a practice that should strengthen the quality of the core task. Co-leadership is therefore not an end in itself, but a way to bring the organization's combined professionalism, judgment and initiative into play more effectively.

We imagine that you

  • have a relevant pedagogical education and solid special education knowledge and experience as well as a view of the individual child, the community and the organization as a whole
  • set clear professional and organizational direction, are visible and accessible in practice and balance development with day-to-day operations
  • lead with trust and clear expectations, facilitate professional learning and decision-making processes and create followership without being the center of all decisions
  • communicate clearly and respectfully with students, parents, staff and partners and handle difficult and complex situations with calm, decency and clarity
  • have leadership experience or a clear desire to develop yourself as a leader, have or will complete a relevant leadership education and contribute with curiosity, reflection and humor

It is important that you can both give space and take responsibility. You must be able to stand firm on direction, frameworks and values while being genuinely interested in others' perspectives and solutions.

You will become part of

  • a school with engaged staff and strong professional communities
  • a special department with focus on students' individual prerequisites and participation in communities
  • a leadership team with close sparring and shared responsibility and psychological safety
  • an organization where development happens together with those who stand close to the task
  • a workplace that prioritizes professionalism, collaboration and the working environment
  • Viborg Municipality and the shared ambition to be Different in the Community
