Part-time hourly teacher: Egyptian Arabic conversation teacher

Would you use your Egyptian Arabic to help others speak the language better? We are seeking a part-time teacher for 3-6 teaching hours per week, where you will help future language officers train their pronunciation, vocabulary and conversational skills.

Your students are future language officers who must be able to use Arabic in real-life situations, as part of their work in the Armed Forces.

About us

The Defence Language School is responsible, among other things, for training language officers and civilian-military interpreters as well as delivering operative language support to the Armed Forces’ operations at home and abroad. The school’s staff are military and civilian professionals who work across cultural and geographical boundaries.

About the position

The position is a part-time teaching role as a conversation instructor for 3-6 teaching hours per week. There will be opportunities for other smaller teaching tasks depending on qualifications. Classes predominantly take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10:00-14:00, usually in blocks of three teaching hours of 45 minutes.

You plan and conduct teaching in Egyptian Arabic with a focus on conversation and practical language use based on guidance from the fixed teaching team. You adapt the instruction to the students’ level and make the language come alive with everyday-life examples. Your tasks may include:

• Practice pronunciation, vocabulary, listening comprehension and daily communication
• Adapt activities and conversations to different learning needs
• Create structure in the teaching and follow up on students’ development
• Provide clear and constructive feedback
• Contribute to a collaborative teaching environment

You will be attached to the Section for Special Languages, where there are both tenured instructors, other part-time teachers and associated language officers, all working with teaching in either Arabic, Russian or Ukrainian.

About you

We are looking for a part-time teacher who can make Egyptian Arabic present, relevant and motivating. You should enjoy working with people and be able to create teaching where students feel comfortable using the language actively.

We would like you to have

• Mastery of Egyptian Arabic at native or near-native level
• Ability to explain the language’s pronunciation, vocabulary and grammar in a simple way
• Patient, engaged and good at meeting students with different needs
• Good communication skills in Danish or another relevant language of instruction
• Ability to follow and deliver structured teaching according to guidance
• Thrives with responsibility and collaboration in a dynamic everyday life

It is a significant advantage if you also

• Have experience with language, language teaching or conversation training
• Have worked with adults or young learners
• Can use creative activities to get the conversation going
• Have an interest in innovation and new ways of language learning

Terms of employment

The position is advertised for civilian employment.

You are employed in accordance with the Ministry of Finance Circular on Hourly Paid Teaching from 17 January 2001, from which you are paid at Rate II per teaching hour. The current amount is DKK 577.90 per teaching hour - which includes your own preparation for teaching.

As an employee under the Ministry of Defence, you are subject to certain special terms. You must, among other things, be able to obtain and maintain security clearance throughout the duration of employment.
