About the job

Can you take responsibility for construction projects from the initial ideas and phases to the finished building? Can you navigate both the design and execution phases, where pace is high, decisions have consequences, and projects must be turned into reality?

Do you thrive being close to decisions, stand firm when the wind blows, and simultaneously communicate clearly with both steering groups, end users, consultants and craftsmen? Then you might be the person we are looking for as project manager and internal client adviser in Skanderborg Municipality.

Gaaab – a municipality is so boring…

In Skanderborg Municipality we realize construction projects that form the framework of everyday life for children, young people, the elderly and staff.

They are projects on a human scale, but often with great complexity – technical, organizational and political.

As a project manager with us you are the municipality's client adviser from the inside. You will have responsibility, influence and freedom, and you will become a central actor in ensuring that our constructions are realized with quality, governance and respect for both economy and processes.

If you think municipal construction projects are slow and dusty, you will be positively surprised.

The position

We are busy and therefore seek a new colleague. Skanderborg Municipality invests in both new builds, rebuilds and renovations, and we continue to experience high activity in the construction sector. Therefore we are looking for a colleague who can help lift both current and upcoming construction projects.

The position is for you who enjoy getting many different people to work toward the same goal. You can see yourself as the client throughout the construction process – from early ideas, design to execution and final handover.

As a project manager you will be responsible for construction projects through the entire project lifecycle. You may therefore work with everything from programming, consultant tendering and design to execution, completion and handover to operations.

Which projects you will be responsible for depends on your experience, competencies and interests. We believe that tasks should match the individual project manager's strengths, and therefore your project portfolio can range from early development and design phases to projects closer to execution and handover. Common for the projects is that they have significance for citizens and employees in Skanderborg Municipality.

Your main tasks will include

  • lead construction projects through design, execution and handover
  • ensure management of economy, time, quality and risks
  • plan and implement design processes in collaboration with consultants and users
  • contribute to the choice of contract and tender strategy as well as the conduct of consultant and contractor tenders
  • act as the client's representative in collaboration with consultants, contractors and other stakeholders
  • create progress and take decisions when projects encounter challenges
  • facilitate construction committees, user groups, steering groups and project meetings
  • translate complex professional issues into clear decision proposals
  • ensure professional handover to operations and users
  • contribute actively to knowledge sharing and professional development in the team

Your qualifications

We imagine that you have a solid construction background – e.g. as a building constructor, engineer or architect – and that you have experience with project management of construction projects.

You have worked with both design and execution, and you want to take responsibility across the construction phases. You do not need to have tried everything beforehand, but you must be curious about the whole construction process and have the courage to be in the middle of the complexity.

Additionally we would like

  • min. 5 years of experience with project management in construction
  • familiar with the AB-system, performance descriptions and collaboration with consultants and contractors
  • can create structure, direction and progress in complex projects
  • communicate clearly, precisely and with situational awareness – both in writing and verbally
  • understand how to operate in a politically governed organization or be curious to learn

We place great emphasis on your communication skills.

As a project manager with us you must be able to adapt your communication to many different audiences. One day you present a case to a steering group or management, the next day you discuss solutions with consultants, institution leaders or craftsmen on the construction site.

You must be able to create trust, build relationships and at the same time stand firm when the situation requires it.

As a person you are structured, clear and good at creating trust. You understand how to balance firm control with good dialogue – and you thrive in an environment where professionalism, collaboration and humor go hand in hand.

You succeed in the role when you

  • deliver professional results where time, economy and quality are aligned
  • create progress in both design and execution phases
  • can translate complex issues into clear decisions and concrete actions
  • manage to set direction for consultants, contractors, users and decision-makers
  • step into the role of negotiator, meeting chair or conflict resolver when needed
  • prioritize, delegate and lead the project's actors with clarity and respect
  • professionally manage project economy and maintain overview in complex processes
  • communicate clearly and timely to steering groups, users, consultants, contractors and colleagues
  • navigate constructively within the political and organizational framework
  • actively contribute to knowledge sharing, collaboration and a good working environment
